Default need help - price estimate?

my car is at the painters and we need to drop the motor to get to the firewall. now due to the extreme suspension modifications we made the engine needs to be dropped out of the bottom. i would do this myself if i had access to a car lift, but i dont. my painters import mechanic next door wants to charge me $800 to drop the motor & put it back in. to save some money i offered to prep everyhing so all he had to do was actually lift the car up and lower the motor out. he didnt give me a strait answer and told me "for $800 i'll just do everything". what do you guys feel is a fair price to drop the engine out of a 96 accord lx? how many hours do feel it would take?

I dont see why he wouldn't let you do the prep work and if he'll let you $200 for lift time is about right

yep around my way they wanted 800-900 to remove old f22 & put in the h22 (not including h22) so it sounds about right.

same here. most shops asked for 750-800 to remove and install engine. btw how much did that set up cost plus fabrication???

all metal fab on car was done in house (including front & rear susp). front would run $2500, rear would run $2500. here are some rear pics if your interested. we incorporated heim joints in rear upper arms & turn buckles in rear lower arms to give adjustable camber & toe in the rear.

no body drop. car is laying on "frame rails" under there. didnt wanna deal w/ raising the floors & rerouting all the fuel lines under there. the motor is already raised 3/4". would have to raise it another 3/4" for a bd. car is at the paint shop now being redone. here are a more recent pics. the copper color paint is not the new paint. my previouse painter screwed that paint job up.

is that a cantilever setup in the rear? that is done right, minitruckin for life. i really like your accord, stock kit and laying rail.

but back to the topic at hand, buy a cherry picker for like 200 bucks and do the swap yourself. thats what im doing this weekend. i got a quote for $500 from a local shop for an in and out though. 800 seems high to me....

it is more like a lever setup. cantilever would have the bags laying horizontal and pushing against a cam. mine is simpler. i cant just pick the motor out of the car. notice the 1/4" wall 1 1/2" tubing welded into the car. i either have to lift the car over the motor or (some1 suggested to me) pull the rad support off and bring it strait out the front of the car.
