depends on what you get done, if it's just assembly(no sleeving/honing/balancing/etc.) I'd say no more than 750(1500 if the motor is still in the car and you need it taken out & put back in)

the motor is not in the car, and all the machine work had been pre-done....so do you think 1500 is too high?

1500 for just assembly is pretty extreme even by CA prices. All of my friends (that didn't build the blocks themselves) paid no more than 900 for a similar situation that you're in.
