Default Ignition Short

My son had a short in his ignition system, it blew the main fuse. Rather than getting a new fuse he jumped it. He must have wiped out something else. He purchased a new coil. The car start and ran for a few seconds and quit! Any ideas as to what else might have been effected, or just where to start looking for the problem. Me, a vehicle has to have a carburator, and points for me to understand what is happening. You can guess my age!!! So any help will be appreciated. Earle

When it started again how was the engine acting? The last breaths of life before it died should help diagnose the problem.

I am sorry! He says that it did not start but sounded as though it wanted to start, turning over fast. Earle

I would check the main relay, ignition switch, and maybe ignitor in the distributor.
Although I don't know of any involvement these parts may have with the short you mentioned.

Good luck Earle

might have fried the ECU, Main relay or anything.

Since they all run off power from the fuse box

Not to bring up the obvious, but did he also check ALL the other fuses in the main fuse panel and the fuse block under the dash?
