Car Breaking Up At Higher RPM's
We'll I've been having this problem the past month, maybe longer. When I bring the rpm's up in car it will break up. It sounds like it's hitting the rev limiter but it's not. I'll be pulling then all of a sudden it just kind of come to a stop and then it will go again (sorry trying to make sense, it's hard to explain). At first it was doing it right before I redlined. Someone said my fuel injectors might be dirty so I bought some high milage fuel injector cleaner at Aid Auto. Put it in, was running a lot better and it wasn't breaking up nearly as much. 2 days later it's running like crap again and now it's breaking up at a lower rpm (around 5k-6.5k). By the way the car is a 97 GSR with 110k miles. Any ideas on what it could be?

Just checked the oil. It has enough. Any other ideas? This is really bothering me.

If the fuel injector cleaner was working than my thoughts are they are dirty again. That can happen because you might have rust at the bottom of your fuel tank, when you run it low on gas its suckin up all that rust crap and your fuel filter can't stop it all. To dignose this, change your fuel filter and dump the gas out, see if its clear like it should be, if not and its orange color, you got rust. Just a thought, happen to me before.
Good Luck

I was having a similiar problem if not the same with my ls. Assuming the problem isn't related to vtec, i can tell you that my problem was timing. Check your timing belt and make sure the car is in time. Other than that, a good ole tune up will do wonders. New plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor button fixed my problem. But the key problem was timing. I'm sure that will fix your problem.
Holy crap scratch what I said before. My oil is lower than the first dot on the dipsick! Plus I have a oil leak that looks like it's coming from the head. It goes down to wear the engine code on the block is stamped in. I'll have to change the oil tomorrow and see if I can get some new gaskets.

We'll I just changed my oil. Went for a test drive. The first 2 pulls were nice, it wasn't breaking up at all. After that, it just went back to normal.
Anyone have any more ideas? This is really annoying me.

u said ur leaking oil by the head.... maybe a blown headgasket. take ur plugs out and see what condition they're in.
if the headgaskets good then my guess would be timing or fuel

Just checked my sparkplugs. The on all the way on the right if filled with oil! How would that happen? I'm trying to clean it off right now, any ideas on best way to clean it? I'm using paper towels right now. Gonna take pictures and upload them any minute.
Oh yeah and here are my plugs. They are black at the bottom.

Changed them not to long ago. They're shot right? Also the sparkplug wires got some oil on them, should I just dry em off and they'll be reuseable or no, I should buy new ones?

hmm. probably not, because the gas would keep the inside of the tank from rusting, but it still may be a possibility.
also looks like your valve cover grommets need replacing, so it could be that you're getting oil on the tops of the plugs and getting shitty spark. i've seen that happen many a-time. change those out. and that oil leak on the side under the vtec solenoid could be your cam endcap leaking. also a common problem, and a fairly easy fix.

why not? that's what it's for. how else do you check your oil level?
edit: w00t, 1023. you chemistry people know what im talkin about.

definitley replace those spark plugs. and if there's oil inside the cylinder as well as outside on the block, then my guess is that ur headgasket's blown
