Default Sad Night Tonight

Well tonight we were going up to Ogden to go to the Bar for Seans big 21st birthday. So i decided to drive along with Jons Mazdaspeed and A friend of ours Turbo LS Integra. While on I-15 me and the other teg decided to do a race. We both down shift and were going. He is pulling on me but im suprised at how well my car is keeping up with him. Thats not the bad part. I hit red line in third and shift to forth. Wrong. I shift into second. Im just like f u c k. I couldn't get the car into gear. i pull off the freeway and i can start getting the car in gear. But my clutch is really soft. I pull into a parking lot and my car freaken sounds like a diesel. I don't know what to do so Justin (kid with the teg) tells me to just take it easy. The car runs just like normal. It pulls really hard still but at idle it is just really loud nocking. So at the bar me and Justin and Lee are talking it over and it seems that my clutch obsorbed most of the tranny hurting so im probley going to need a new clutch. we also came to the conclusion that the nocking in the engin is ether a broken spring or a bent valve. The car still runs like normal. just a really loud knocking. it is annoying but what can i do. I am taking off my valve cover tomorrow to inspect under that so I hope you guys can give me your simphathy. I am really sad right now. but I guess it could be worse. So any insight would be aprecieated

bent valve or valves. Possibly chipped/dented pistons, could have scrached cylinder walls. If you are still having trouble shifting, you may want to check the fork too (and the whole tranny for that matter)

I'll let someone else field the street racing comments

hmm

thats street racing. very expensive "sport" i think :-/

lount nokking? perhaps a valve is broken and walking in your cylinder now? don't drive that car anymore. get the head of the engine and the oil also and check whats all broken.

and ya if you could not shift good. the tranny has also to be checked.

it really has nothing to do with street racing. anybody could of had this happen to them at the track. so to say street racing is at blame here is dumb. also i found it hard to believe none of you have ever street raced your cars.

defending street racing is more dumb.

I don't find any "thrill" in racing stock cars with lowering springs, tenzo R 18" wheels/exhaust, altezzas and huge wings, wild body kits, and super hadouken tenchi hyper type sxvrs-R stickers that make them go fast... nor trying to beat grandma off the line at the red light ...

different strokes for different folks.

True, it could happen at the track, but in this case it didn't -- it happened while STREET RACING.

Why is it so hard to believe that some of us don't street race? Not all of us have something to prove.

I promise you that you have as stated previously....1 or many (many being my guess) valves. The reason that your caR still runs efficiently at high RPMs is b/c the valves are both light enough and flexible enough to still seat properly. Now...im sure that makes sense why at low RPM's, like when at idle your motor will not maintain at correct idle and fluctuates im sure.

I was in this same boat....although i didn't mis-shift, my clutch stuck in the firewall and poped back out with my foot pegged full throttle..(ouch). I believe valves when i purchased them were about $27 a pop from Len...thats if they even have them as they are an item thats pretty regularly purchased. Definitely let us know what you find out..i'll be interested to hear!

I'm not going to rag on your for having some highway fun...b/c i'll still do it from time to time, and all you who caravaned with me to EXP0 are hypocrites if you say you didn't that day either

if you get sympathy you might just go out and do it again. take it as a lesson learned.

Sure it does or a better explanation is Street Jackassery. He clearly did state this above:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by TeknikDC2 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> While on I-15 me and the other teg decided to do a race.</TD></TR></TABLE>

So what, you'd just blame mechanical failure? NOT. It was driver error pure and simple while being stupid, and then posting publically. He got his guesses at diagnosis. Thank God he will only have to pay with his wallet this time, not jail time or lose his car, or some poor soul lost their life.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jnet &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">anybody could of had this happen to them at the track.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Of course this could happen on a track, But it's far more prevelant with inexperienced younger drivers on the street during said Jackassery, which is why there will be little to no sympathy.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jnet &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">so to say street racing is at blame here is dumb.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Why, because he clearly made a costly driver error while doing stupid dangerous crap on public roads? Actually I'd say it's a costly lesson that hopefully he can learn from.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jnet &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">also i found it hard to believe none of you have ever street raced your cars. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Believe it or not, it's true. For the most part, we as a group don't. It's immature, dangerous, stupid & costly. With a prime example above, Thank God no one got hurt, just this tards ego and his wallet.

Take it to the track. That's where Many of us are.

Thanks for the advice you all have given me. I know I was stupid for racing and I have learned my lession from it. But I was talking to a friend that has a GSR and he did the exact same thing i did. He discribed to me the same knocking noise that my car is making. He said he just did a Valve adjustment to it and the noise went away. So i think thats what im going to do tonight and see if that helps it.
