Default Overheating on newly rebuilt motor

Ok, I took my newly rebuilt (D16A6) CRX out for its maiden voyage today. Well I think I put about .1 a mile on her and the temp needle shot up to the H SUPER FAST I dont think I hurt anything, it didnt stay hot very long.

So I felt the radiator cap and it wasnt hot to the touch, so I carefully opened it. Hot steam poured out, no water. Ok, I guess that I had an air bubble in the system. I topped off the radiator and started it without the cap and let it idle for a few mins. No probs, temp needle below halfway. Got just as bout as far as last time and the needle started rising fast again, took it back to the house, felt the cap again and it was just a bit warmer than before, opened it carefully to a nice steam and water shower.

Is this just a case of needing to bleed the cooling system a bit better? OHh yeah, never noticed the fans turning on either.

FYI, the water pump, hoses and t-stat are brand new. The radiator was also flushed well before re-installation

TIA

If you positive you have no leaks anywhere, and your thremostat is godd then id go have the system pressure tested

Open the bleeder bold at try to put more coolant in there. If there is air in the system, the radiator may look full when its really not. Also, feel of your hoses, if the lower one is cold and upper is hot, you may have a bad thermostat.

What did you tighten the head bolts to? Is it a new Radiator Cap? Were the pins that align the head still in it or the block?

well it could just be your fans since you said you didnt notice those coming on. try running the fans direct and see what happens.

the fans only do something when your moving less than like 5 mph, if its overheating while moving, its something else. i go with both pressure testing and making sure the system is bled right

Make sure the thermostat isn't in backwards.

well my car was overheating and it was because of the fans. the needle would move even while i was driving, so thats why i suggested that. it could also be the thermostat.
