Top Dead Center Sensor (TDC Sensor). It is in the dizzy, and you can't buy it seperate. Get a new dizzy

just replaced a distributor that had the TDC sensor break off from it's mount.car ran just as you've described.this tells the ECU where the motor is in it's rotation-it being broken can certainly lead to the distributor firing at the wrong time causing problems like you have.
before spending money on a a new distributor, troubleshoot your current one.in a a shop manual there's a procedure to test the sensor itself, and you'll also want to test the wiring to make sure there are no shorts or breaks anywhere.

I just had the same problem #8 code. I just replaced my LS distributor. Got a new housing for $125 (Acura-Honda) and it runs great.
