so i need a whole new dizzy? whould that be the reason i have a weird idle when cold, and when i just go sometimes the rpm's would fall? been like this for a long while, im finally getting irritated with it.
just replaced a distributor that had the TDC sensor break off from it's mount.car ran just as you've described.this tells the ECU where the motor is in it's rotation-it being broken can certainly lead to the distributor firing at the wrong time causing problems like you have.
before spending money on a a new distributor, troubleshoot your current one.in a a shop manual there's a procedure to test the sensor itself, and you'll also want to test the wiring to make sure there are no shorts or breaks anywhere.
