Default mini-me questions

hi all. Im going to be swapping a d16y8 head on my y7 block soon. ive been reading up on it a bit. couple questions

when reinstalling the new valve cover, I use a rubber gasket between the valve cover and the head? is it hard to make fit? do i use any kind of adhesive or sealant?

also what are the valve cover sealing grommets, do they go under the bolts?

I will likely have a lot more questions as it becomes closer to time for me to do the project.

the rubber gasket should fit into into the lining of the valve cover and for the sealing grommets, yes they go under the bolts.

Why are you going to be taking the valve cover off?

hmm, but what about sealant? am i supposed to put a dab of sealant on the corners?

another couple questions...
any reason to dismantle the cylinder head? meaning to take the valves and springs out?

I assume if you want to polish the head you have to take it all apart right?

how good is it to replace the valves with racing ones? waste of money?

I want it to be a daily driver that pulls at least 200+ whp on a N/A engine. I might take it to the local autox track for fun.

gonna make it super clean with rims and tint, as a gift for my wife. (its her car).

You might as well swap in a dohc if you plan on 200+ whp n/a. It will be very hard and very expensive to get close to that kind of numbers with only n/a.

ok I was probably over reaching with the 200 whp bit. what kind of horsepower can I expect to get with an N/A engine for a reasonable price? perhaps 160?

the highest I've seen on a sohc vtec N/A is 200 and it had a shitload done port&Polish, cam, valve train etc.. if you want fast and daily driver, b series is the way to go. but it will be a fun project anyway. also the money you spend on the sohc motor to get it to even 160hp you can get a b16 for cheep and have that hp and a stock motor. 200 is easily reachable with b series. you can find obd0 b16 for 600$

Don't quote me on this, but I've read somewhere that a d16 internals can only handle a consistent power of under 180 hp, anything higher, and you have to replace pistons and rods.
But then again, I have seen a SOHC pulling 200 hp with a turbo on stock internals (question is, "how long will it last").

I have been turbo for almost a year and I beat the **** out of my car daily. I made 216whp/181wtq at 10psi and 230whp/208wtq at 12psi. This is on a completely stock d16z6.

with your motor on stock internals anything above 11 or 12 psi daily, u will end up throwing a rod or burning the **** out of the pistons, if u turbo u might want some heavy internal upgrades for a SOHC. Believe me i have tried it and blown 2 motors so as most people have said it would be smarter to go to a b series, h22a, or even a k20.

200whp daily will be fine on the stock internals with good tuning.

This guy wants all motor though, so to get 200whp and keep is daily driven he is going to have to swap.

I read that d16Y and d16Z are different, even the head bolts from ARP are different for those two.
I do hope d16Y can handle that much, though, because I'll be putting a bunch of bolt-ons, not to mention a 75-shot ZEX kit.
