Default LS or B16 tranny w/ Turbo Setup??

Ok, I have a b16 w/ turbo and I hear that when going turbo it is better to go with the LS tranny? I know it has longer gears but doesnt the b16 tranny get up quicker and make my car faster?

What would be some pros and cons

What do you guys think would be better overall?

The only disadvantage to the b16 trans is it will top out much sooner than the LS.

I believe the b16 tops out at around 140 or something like that. The LS tops out around 175.

You're never gonna have your car going that fast so b16 would be a better choice, GSR would be the best IMO.

I don't care what people say, the LS trans sucks in any type of racing application, when you want good gas mileage it's a different story.

If you were up for it put the LS 4th and 5th gears in the b16 trans. Or you could put a 4.7 FD in the LS trans and make it much peppier.

b16. my guess would be that the ls would make it easier to put power down to the ground

LS no doubt.
Turbo car = LS
NA = b16

Either way is fine, the LS would give you better gas mileage and top end.

Have you ever driven a turbo b-series with both trannies? An LS tranny and b16 tranny are night and day.

LS
B16

I've had both trannies in my boosted rex and i'd have to say go with b16 trans, although i did have to hit 5th gear going through the traps. Even having to hit fifth the et's were about .3 - .5 faster with b16 trans.

How come though? Due to gas mileage or performance aspects?

I forgot to add, I loved the LS trans in my LS-turbo hatch, I haven't driven my new turbo LS hatch with GSR trans so I can't give a good eexample.

The LS trans might make it a little more driveable, but that depends on the driver.

both really. altho the gears are shorter with the GSR, the LS gave me something to work with on the street. say i launched and naturally i spin thru first gear with the GSR. with the LS i could at least pedal it out and work with something. the GSR is so short in first im shifting to second in no time at all. and also the milage issue. with the GSR trans im getting 15-20 mpg out of it. which i believe is horrible. with LS trans i was getting 22-28

WRONG!

shorter gears > longer gears... end of story.

If you having traction problems get better tires, motor mounts, traction bars, limited slip, 2 stage or a gear dependant boost controller, etc...
