The Ls is designed for the powerband of the ls engine. A B16 tranny keeps the enigne in vtec at redline shifts. If it doesn't do this the engine falls flat on it's face. So get a 99-00 si and shift from 1st to 3rd and 3rd to 5th and you basicly get what the ls is like. Not quite that bad but close

The pros are you will cruise as a nice rpm on the hwy

would a vafc help by lowering the vtec engagement point? and i'll also be adding turbo. will this help any? i only do freeway runs and i'm not really interested in 1/4 mile times, only in spanking my frenz on the freeway.

If you have the money for a VFAC and a Turbo then just get a B16 tranny. Don't try and fool with with something just to make it work, do it right.

thanks for the response but i already have a vafc and a turbo set up, that is how my ls blew. but i was wondering if this would help my situation with the ls trans, cuz i don't have money to buy another trans. i'm pretty much stuck with this set-up. let me know any opinions. thanks.

Slap the turbo on it it'll work out fine you'll have traction after every hard shift then instead of wasting tires.

I've got the B16/LS trans combo in my '89 4dr.... 8k-rpm shifts in 1, 2 & 3 will actually stay in VTEC. Takes FOREVER to pull through a gear though. It is very nice on the highway though...3500 rpm is a nice comfortable 70-something mph cruise.

in theory...it might work...but hard fact have proven otherwise....
the gears are just tooo long..and final drive is just not right for vtec motor..
i would stay away from LS trans...

On a similar note...

I'm working on swapping in a B18A into my CRX, and I had heard about the incredibly tall gearing on the LS tranny. I was seriously considering a B16 tranny to mate to the LS engine...is this a common practice?
