The car is running WAY rich... so rich it smells of fuel. I did have the car running +8 degrees on the cam but i backed it back down to zero... she still is ungodly rich... i'm getting 20mpg on the highway its so bad. any way you think i can figure out what is going on?
the other thing, related or not... at a stop, clutch in or out, the car idles from 1k up to 2k and then back down... and it does this non stop. I replaced the 02 and it helped, for about 1 day it was only doing 1k to 1.5k jumps but after that its back up to 2k. One of the guys at the track said these motors search for idle all the time... but i'm tired of people at traffic lights thinking i want to "race" lol... any clues?

Fisrt, do a tune up, set your timing, and set your idle correctly.
Replace your PCV Valve.
Then clean out the EACV out with some carb cleaner, and go ahead and spray some into the Throttle body too.
At that point you will have eliminated the usual suspects for crappy idle, and maybe fixed your other issues too.

Its throwing no codes at all... the motor only has 1500 miles on it... thats the amount of miles on the new plugs, distributor, and wires. I'll take take the advise to heart and start playing with the TB and EACV and PCV next... but we are due for snow.... hopefully next weekend.
I have the Exact same problem, dont have adjustable cam gear but my car does the same thing as his. I tried cleanin my iacv, and it didnt really help. More info please
sounds kinda like the TPS, or you could try taking the thing on the bottom of the throttle body, that has coolant running through it, off. Unscrew the two smaller screws and take the plate off. Twist the big white thing clockwise(tighten) untill you think that it is far enough in. Then put it all back on.
Sorry, for all the technical wording.(someone complained, so I put things into simple terms now!)
That's what I did, just to clear up the whole maybe it doesn't work group, snd it worked. The problem with mine was that it would idle up to 3k and back down to 1k, and every once and a while it would die.
GOOD LUCK

Yea same exact problem. I took the IACV (thing wit coolant thingys lol) off before and cleaned it but didnt mess with the part inside. I'll try that again and see whats up. Thanks!

Bump for this problem cus i'm still running crazy rich, and my idle is still fucked up. If i sit at idle for awhile i get an Code 1. Replaced o2 sensor and same outcome. I have an adjustable fpr and tried turnin that down but didnt help really. Anyone know what else might cause the car to run rich? I got emissions this month!!!!
well mine is doin the same thing. i have a 1989 crx hf that has a 1989 si D16A6 motor wit a si trans (not sure which one) it runs way way to rich. i pulled the spark plugs to look at them to see how thy are since i just bought it two days ago and they was drenched in gas pretty much. the guy i bought it from said they was oversize injectors. so what should i do thats the cheapest way to lean it out some? then i have the same problem of as it idles it goes from 1 gand to max 2 grand up and down. i know from other honda buddies that is usually some vacum line???? im sorry im a domestic guy but ive always liked crxs so finally got one so yes im kinda of a noob. i know cars and motors pretty well but yea. anything would help and id apppreciate it.
sooo... did anyone check for vacuum leaks?
usually, when the idle bounces like that, it's from a vacuum leak. What IS vacuum? WELL...
Vacuum is the absence of air. A fan produces a very weak vacuum.
If air is getting SUCKED out of an area, there will be a vacuum.
So your entire intake manifold is a vacuum chamber, since the engine is sucking air from the intake manifold into the cylinder.
That being said, if you have a "vacuum leak," that means more air is getting into the intake manifold than there should be, acting in the same way as having the throttle part way open, causing the engine to rev higher.
So, what could cause this?
A bad seal on the IACV on the back of the intake manifold.
An improper throttle body gasket.
The brake booster line having a crack in it (the big tube coming out the back of the manifold)
Any disconnected line going to the purge/map, or cracked line (small black tubes)
or even perhaps the charcoal canister line (usually red, connects to top of throttle body)
Eliminate those, and you'll be closer to solving the issue.
(whoops, old thread from 2010, oh well)

um no sorry.. i dont know hondas n have no more honda buddys so yea.. i got it to run lil better by turning the screw right under air intake hose... but yea..
im guessin im about to point to just start by buyin new injectors n changing o2 sensor n changing pcv....
