i think they are just pot metal that is stamped, kid of like a cluster **** of random metals, mostly steel i think
Depends on the year and engine... If your pan is black, then it is steel.
The newer oil pans are cast aluminum and are pretty thick. Just make sure you know which oil pan yyou have

There are weld-on and bolt-on solutions for both types of pans. It depends on if you want to weld it on or drill and bolt it on. They are commonly available as steel weld-on NPT bungs, and are less commonly available as a -10 AN male fittings. Summit, Earls, Jegs, etc have the steel bungs.
