I think a lot of it has to do with tuning. VTEC engines have a different air/fuel curve compared to the non-VTEC models. I have personally seen many people blow their GS-R, ITR motors only after a few months going Turbo. It's because they never tuned the car after installing the Turbo. There are people who think the Deltagate wastegate & Vortec FMU from the DRAG III Turbo kit are awesome and nothing needs to be done. The fact is, the Deltagate wastegate is not very reliable (should be changed to a Tial wastegate) and the Vortec FMU is not a good management system. They need something with good tunability such as Hondata, Uberdata, etc. The first thing they should do after having a Turbo setup is to take the car to the dyno and tune it properly (with an experienced tuner) and also don't run an insane amount of boost on stock internals if you want the motor to last. They should also remember to put 93-94 octane gas, 87 octane is not a good idea especially for a boosted GSR, ITR motor.

Aren't VTEC motors harder to tune with turbo since issues like blowby are more common than with Non-VTEC?

Too much combustion + boost = Detonation.
There are ways to make it right.

Yes, the 2 cancel each other out and then you are left with a normally aspirated, non-VTEC motor

I'd say mine likes it quite a bit actually. Just do it right the first time and don't buy low quality parts.

I guess I'm a little behind on my info. But isn't VTEC harder to tune with boost?

Do you mean compression? Anyways, VTEC is not something magical. Like others have said, get the **** tuned, and you'll be okay. It's not any harder to tune than any other engine, just get a good system like hondata or uberdata and find somebody that knows what they're doing.

I have a turbo GS-R and it love the boost. You can dial out alot of the blow by by using adjustable cam gears. If you are going to build an engine for boost VTEC is the way to go. VTEC engagment+Boost=Smoking tires, it is a great feelining.
