Default 97 Civic motor swap

I have a 97 Civic, the model is the HX. I want to do a motor swap and have been looking at JDMcustoms.com. I have been looking at: b16a2, b18c1, b18c5, h22a, and the h23a. I would like to know which would be the best bang for the buck. These are all complete swaps, they include: ecu, 5spd tranny, alternator, starter, etc. The b16a2 is $2250 with 170hp. The b18c1 is $3150 with 178hp. The b18c5 is on eBay, a complete swap for $3775 with 200 hp. The h22a is $3250 with 200hp. And the h23a is $3600 with 215hp. The h22a and 23a come with the custom mounts, and ready to fit into a 96-00 Civic without any cutting or welding. About how much would labor cost for a motor swap, anyone who has brought one into the shop and had it done there? Well any help would be great. I want something that is quick off the line, dependable, good on the highway, and FAST. Thanks.

Cody

Well I am very partial to the B16A2. It is very versatile, good power, good potential, reliable, fast, and very fun. Gas mileage+reliability=

I guess to decide though you have to look at personal preference. What do you want from this motor? You say you want it quick off the line and dependable? Well a B16A2 w/bolt-ons will be quick. Also it is only 2250$, saves you plenty of money for the labor Good luck, have fun with it

i say b16a2, thats what i have in my civic...its a very well built motor for the price...plus id say the h23 motor is out of the question unless you're not worried about having vtec, wit that motor ud have to put a vtec head on it but it would be fast, but it's also not worth the 3600+buying a vtec head...too pricey, much rather get a b16 and slap a turbo on it for the same price and have a lot more fun

If you have the money and the patience for the swap, go with the h22a.

I would say go with the b18c1. They have good power to start with and lots of potential (but what engine doesn't) You get more torque than a b16 and they are much cheaper than a b18c5 or h22/23. HOWEVER, if you have the money for those swaps I say go for it.

Are the h22 and 23 heavy though? I heard that they will make your car extremely front heavy, and cause more "plowing." Which engine would you say has the most potential gains?
