Default 4750 to much for b61a2 swap in 97 civic ex

i talked to a local performance shop and the guy wants my to shell out

4750= b16a2
5850= b18c1
6850= h22a

all of these would be in with no ac and no power steering and this would be in a 97 civic ex coupe then he would like to charge me 500 to replace the water pump and timing belt and do some other things and i dont think that is to bad but i want to know if these prices are outrages or not

Those prices are insane. Almost $2000 over what most of us would pay, and that's WITH PS and A/C if we want it.

There are tons of people on H-T that will help you swap for under $500 + the cost of the swap and some will do it for a case of beer.

Would you really spend almost $5000 to get 30hp? Geez dude.

well.....for a 6.1Liter honda V8, i'd think that would be a fair price...lol.....nah those quotes are pretty outragous.....i think that guy's just lubing you up for the raping....b16a2 with PS and AC should run you no more than $3000 for everything installed

lol b61a2 i was typing fast or trying to to type fast but yea i asked him how much he would charge if i bought the motor myself and had everything he said that if it didnt work when he installed it becasue i got some of the wrong parts then he would have to take them out and replace them with the right ones for a butt load of money and i am already going to have to sell a car i guess to get the motor

$500 (!) to replace the water pump and timing belt, while the engine is out of the car?! That's insane!!! You can get it done with the engine still in the car for $350 or less

Damn, what a ripoff. For the price he's charging for a B18C1 swap, you could have a B18C5 installed elsewhere, and probably still have a couple bucks left over.

YOu can get B16a2s all day for $2200 complete.

I'll do the swap for $500.

You'll need a few things here and there but nothing that adds up to $2k

Tell him he's a loser!

Yes, that is entirely too much. Also, this is how I look at it. d16y8 = 127hp, b16a2 = 160hp. So b16a2 has 33hp more than d16y8.

4750/33 = $143/hp
5850/43 = $136/hp

IMO, just not worth the gains, especially considering you can build the d16y8 to put down the same power as the b16a2 for less than $2k (or turbo for about the same)... just my $0.02...

either they think you're stupid or there isnt another shop within 500miles of your area. are you in a rural area or something where access is limited?

turbo it. Spend that 5 g's on a turbo kit/ems and tuning....you'll be putting down some good power.
