stock head with turbo making 400-500hp
Hey guys.
What do you guys think about my set up? 2000 Type R. I have an ImportBuilders 2.0L b18c5 block at 9:1 compression. I'll be getting the Full-Race t3/t67 turbo kit. Working with them right now on the purchase of the kit. I'll be running an AEM EMS. Perhaps 800-900cc injectors. I want to run close to or at 500hp. My question is this...I'm on a budget and may not be able to get the head built. What are your thoughts on the stock type R head with this set up. I know that ITR206 has made 400+ hp with the same set up. I know that a pnp head would make a night and day diffference, but may not get to it. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

yeah it's not really the power that concerns the head... it's RPM's. if you plan to rev that bitch then you should upgrade the drive train...

you will be fine--it will make 600+ on a stock type r head, probably
as far as revs, stock is like 8500 on USDM type R, so do that or maybe 9 K
every little bit helps though, so build it when you can, but until then you won't be disappointed.

Yeah even with 400-500 horsepower upgrading the springs and retainers is a good idea

your head will be fine.mine made 535whp with a stock head.mine bangs the rev limiter at 9500rpm all the time with no problems.you may also want to consider gsr cams though. you can make more low end power with them.it made a huge difference in my car
Like stated earlier you should have no problem attaining 500 whp w/a stock ITR head.Depending on the mileage of the head though you might consider replacing the springs, the extra heat from a turbo application puts more stress on them.Even if you replace them w/stock springs that would be better then used ones.
TurboTypeR...you did 9500 rpms with stock valvetrain? Thanks alot guys. That's what I'll be doing for now until I can afford a built head. I have 46k miles or so on the head.
yeah,it started to fall off at about 8700 with the gsr cams, but when i ran drag radials,i had to raise to 9500 to keep from shifting.it would barely tag the limiter as it went across the finish line at 9500rpm
