Default Honda OEM add-on single CD player owners

Who here owns a factory add-on CD player like the one pictured below?

Mine has a hard time reading CD-Rs. It used to be able to read them fine, but they don't make Maxells/Memorexes/TDKs like they used to. I find that ProMedia CD-Rs burned using CDRWIN work best on my player, but still there are lag problems. Just wondering if anyone else who owns the abovementioned player has problems with CD-Rs.

Have you tried cleaning it?

if you use different cds, it may be the difference too, be it color or brand, no matter what anyone says, no two cd brands are the same... I speak from hard experience

That's not the problem as it plays original CDs and the old CD-Rs (24x or slower) perfectly.

then ive answered your question, if it plays all the cds that used to play correct correct, your either burning them, or using a cheaper CD or different color, use the ones that worked before, and you will be ok

I use Maxells, TDKs, and Memorex. Their older products work perfect (24x or slower, circa 2000-2002). Major brands change specs and manufacturers w/o notice, and all their products on the shelves today (48x or faster) don't work. I use the same burner and software as I did back in 2000 (Easy CD Creator 4), I also have a newer computer with Nero 6 and a Lite-On burner.

What I really want to know is if anyone with the same CD player as mine or if anyone else owns a different Honda OEM add-on player has problems with CD-Rs. Besides trying to acquire older CD-Rs, my other option is to get another OEM add-on CD player.

Old technology. You got new toys, like CD-R's, time for a new tech deck.

have you tried burning the dics at a lower speed? That can be an issue too. It's come up before on me a year or two ago. If you burned at a higher speed the burn wouldn't be as "complete"... and some players would have trouble reading the burn either because of their design and hardware, or because of the build up of dirt and dust messing with the laser.

if you like the double setup like you have, you can get a replacement CD add-on unit from aftermarket sources that fit right in place of where the OEM one was. They typically run $100-$175 depending on the company and car... but it might be cheaper than going back to Honda
