A 1200 watt amp will draw peaks of around 170 amps when cranked you will need a 2 ga power wire if its going to be longer then 8 ft that said what is the RMS power of the amp?

lol...so you should be looking at like 200 RMS

Find out the exact RMS rating of the amplifier then crunch some numbers. If the RMS is around 200-300 watts you should not have any problems.
To find out the approximate number of amperes a system would use at maximum volume take the RMS rating of the amp and divide it by 12.

Wow, get a heavy duty 300 amp alternator or else you're screwed
