don't mind the smudges, i erased my vin, id # etc...
setup: USDM B18B1, p75 ecu, AEM short ram, catback exhaust
ref station: contra costa college
notes: they have an in ground dyno, so even if your car is slammed, they'll still dyno you. the ref is a pretty cool guy, has a pretty comprehensive list of acceptable motors. i took a peek at it, and appearantly, ZC's are allowed to be BAR'd now (i guess they're equivalent to d16a6's)
i was planning on doing an LS/VTEC, but now it says specifically non-vtec on the BAR label (which suprised me). i'll just have to shave the vtec lettering off the valve cover

i tried to get my b16 passed at alameda, but it failed 3x for high nox (even with a new cat!). i finally gave up and bought a b18b longblock for $650 (attarco in berkeley). now since i still have the b16 long block, i'm thinking about doing a LS/vtec, along with the b16'a pistons to get a 11.75 CR.

awsome, you may however want to go with OS pistons if the walls arent quite as straight. thats just my 2 cent. Attarco is cool, i picked up a b16a SIRII for my cousin, very clean motor except its a bit pricey
and i forgot to give you a congrats
welcome to the club...(am i still in the B.A.R club? the b16 is no longer in my chassis
)
good luck on your new project.
EDIT: let me know if you need any gaskets for your new build... hit me up i can get it all for you...

All of your USDM counter parts. basically all smog equipment needs to be hooked up and you have to run a USDM ECU.

thanks all
btw, i put in a USDM b18b1, so it had the us equipment on it already. if you have a JDM motor, you'll need to hook up the evap purge solenoid (drill and tap a vaccum nipple on the intake mani, or buy a usdm intake mani) and get a USDM throttle body that accepts the vaccum hose from the charcoal canister.

sup.... i kinda fell off the h-a wagon =P to bar a jdm itr, you have to be running full obd2 (including diagnostic port) and an p73 ecu. if it's an obd2 car, it's not that hard, but if it's a obd1 car, you're going to need to wire up the diagnostic port

there is no list of accepable motors when it comes to getting a bar label. it's pretty rare that anyone knows this but you can swap just about any motor from any car into any car with exceptions of course. the motor has to be newer, has to be from the same classification, etc. so no light truck motor into a car, but u can get a bar label for a... let say... 2jz-gte into a s40sx. the same will go with jdm motors. they're all legally bar-able, it's just that even most refs don't know about it cause there's not many consumers that'll challenge it if they say no.
