I just wanted to know if any of your JDM swaps are sreet legal and what you had to do if anything to get them to pass an inspection.

I swapped a OBD1 H22A into my OBD1 95 Si. I still have a stock cat and I haven't eliminated any emissions equipment (yet). I don't know why it wouldn't be legal. I'm in NC, and as far as I know as long as all emissions equipment is in place and it passes a sniffer test I should be fine. If not I know somebody anyways.

Actually, I think in NC once 2006 rolls around all non obd2 cars will only get a visual inspection for emissions equipment.

yeah man i live in the nc 2 they r goin to do that stuff soon i think we might have to go on a diagnostic machine or we. better find somebody that can hook u up. Its really funny that all these v8s ,z71 trucks and "muscle cars", around here run like straight pipes and the cops just over look them.

Well,

It really depends.

Of you got OBD-I to OBD-I or OBD-II to OBD-II... I can't see why not.

(or...OBD-I to OBD-II...)

The issue is really a matter of emmisions and the ability of the car to be inspected.

For instance: In NJ, where I live, they expect to see a 5G Prelude as an OBD-II enabled vehicle. If when they go to inspect it they can not hook it up and get a reading, you fail... and the car can not be passed...and will not be street legal.

However, if you do a JDM swap and convert it to OBD-II... then the ECU will control the emmisions and it's not a big deal.

PS Since the engine is one of the varients that the car could come with... who's going to be able to fail it?

I just passed a visual here in Colorado where the tree huggers roam. I've got a shiny *** KMS EGR block in plain sight and still had no problems. My riced out engine bay must have blinded his *** silly. They put the friggn cars on Dynos here in Boulder. Friggn' hippies.

inspection is not really the problem, emissions is the problem.

if the engine is running rihgt emissions isnt a problem.
i passed my h22 hatch at 1.5 liter divic dx emissions levels 2 years running without an issue.

it really depends on the state you live in (emissions or not) and where you go..

i got to a nice place where he does the ever so classic "lick and stick". i have no left side turn signals, reverse lights, cruise control doesn't work, illegal clear corner lights front and rear, my alignment is out of wack, my tires are literally treadless, and i have the egr blocked and no air boost valve thing that you're supposed have and i got mine passed like that twice. just find a friend who owns a shop or somebody that does that if you're really that concerned.

if you want to be legit, i don't think you need anything other than i would carry around a receipt of when you bought the engine. b/c it is possible that a cop would pull you over and since you have no VIN on your jap engine (?) it obviously won't match your car and it could be deemed stolen unless you prove that you bought it.

I heard that this works. When I went last week, I kept my 17's on and they wouldn't run it on the dyno cause it could possibly damage the wheel. I was thinkn', "Hell yeah, I'm getting a waiver"! But they told me that I had to find some stock wheels for the test and to come back. I wanted a waiver so bad cause I didn't think I would pass cause I'm running too rich right now. But I braved it and passed OK.

Thats a home-made piece my friend. Made a template (still have it.hint hint) and cut it out of aluminum.

what i mean was that for a lot of the prelude owners, they are putting obd1 motors into obd2 cars

yeah thats me with the obd1 setup in my 96 si

north carolina has a nice loophole in their emissions system though.....

i have bought two preludes from out of state and i went without inspection on the first one for 6 months and im now in my 5th month of no inspection on my current lude and i havent heard anything from them yet....

my brother's truck inspection went out 2 months ago and a letter came in the mail last week for him about a $250 fine if he doesnt go now.....

so i guess they never keep a record of you until you get an inspection....

just gotta hope that a cop never looks at the pennsylvania 9/03 stickers on the windsheild now.....

hmmm.....im thinkin if i go to my friend's shop he can just punch holes in the card and stick it on the window without putting anything in the computer, that way he couldnt get caught because they still would never know, and i would have something to show officer fred if i get pulled......
