Default forced induction

well i think i finally figured out what im gonna do to the ole' civic. i got a 00' ex and i already decided on a b16 swap cause its simple and im a simple guy, plus it would be just like makin my car an Si. i got a few books i was reading on how to build honda horse power and it said that if your lookin for a good daily driver with good throttle response and good low end power then go for a supercharger. so i use my car everyday and im big into drag racing so i know a supercharger is the way to go. i know some of you guys like the turbo but im lookin for anybody who konws or has had experience with the different superchargers that are availble for the b16. im kinda leaning towards the Vortech centrifugal supercharger but i know the Jackson Racing roots styly blower is quicker on the draw but does not make as much power on the mid to uper range as the vortech. plus the vortech has the option for an aftercooler or an intercooler if you can make one fit. so if any body could give me a lil advice that'd be cool thanks.

id save the money, build up the d motor and boost it. more fun that way. but since u have your mind set on a swap, build the block, get the vortech kit and upgrade pulley. should put you 200+ fwhp

The first thing you need to do is stop reading those gay books and magazines because superchargers ******* blow *** on hondas. Build yourself a nice custom turbo kit.

I hate to break it to you genius but he will have boost if he puts on the supercharger. It just wont have lag.

oh yeally? So then why would someone do this https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1036076

If your gonna answer with stupid *** comments like that then at least know wtf your talking about

To answer the original posters question...I have only met a few people with supercharged honda's (most prefer turbo) but the ones i have seen happen to be vortec. Dont really know which is more reliable because im a turbo guy myself. I would check out the forced induction forum and search for answers there.

The ATI Procharger is the best supercharger on the market for the B16/18. It makes as much or more power than the vortech but safer and it's a better overall kit. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. The JRSC is a nice unit but it really is limited in the power it can produce at higher rpm vs the Vortech or Procharger.

What the hell is that link supposed to show me? If anything that proves what I said is true. 260whp/220wtq @ 11psi is ******* weak. I bet that setup cost a **** load of money and you can't even upgrade or turn the boost up because it will become inefficient.

Hondas have little 4 cylinder engines that make their power at high rpms. Hondas are light *** FWD cars that have little dinky tires. Extremely fast throttle response with that much low and mid range power will suck on the street because you will constantly be smoking the tires. If it was a heavy *** RWD car with a V8 I would say go for the supercharger, but it's not. This guy wants a daily driver and drag race car so he should go turbo. The lag will help with traction.

Its shows that they dont blow *** and actually work. You can Still turn up boost past 11 psi on a supercharger and it will make power but why if this is a daily driver?

Exactly, a daily driver that hes not gonna build internaly. Hes gonna be using stock internals which is better off with a supercharger as opposed to a turbo. If he was gonna build the internals then it wouldn't matter. I still prefer turbo over supercharger for myself BUT for him a supercharger would be better for what hes gonna do with it. A supercharger will be more dependable with a stock internal engine.

damn... another supercharger/turbo pissing contest.

anyway. i regularly work on a 97 GSR integra with a JRSC. its got GREAT throttle response and boost is there as soon as you hit the petal. this supercharger dies out after a lil bit tho.

a friend of mine has a pro charger on his 99 Si. needless to say im not very impressed. his car went 14.1 @ 100 mph. for 3800 bucks thats disgusting.

i daily drive a 92 CX hatch with a ls swap, and a fair turbo setup. ive not had any problems to date, and its a very fast street car.

not to start anything with people here, but i was just giving my opinions and experiences on what ive collected.

hope this helps

dude b16 turbo stock internals is reliable if you do it right. also dyno charts wil show you for the little bit of extra money it is for a turbo you will put down more #'s with the turbo setup.

I've put over 20k on my b16 greddy and now have 105K. I boosted at 85K for the less mathematically inclined. At 6.5psi on the blue box I was walking away from a JRSC'd SI tuned with Hondata and 12psi. At 10psi I was walking a vortec'd Si which was also at 10psi. I was also pulling 13.8's in the 1/4. Now at 10psi I'm pulling off 13.3's and I have never had a single problem...nothing has broken at all. Stock internals, tuned uberdata myself...Also a daily driver.

I know they work. I am just saying the supercharger will become inefficient paste a certain point, it's probably already maxed out at 11psi. You can't just turn the boost up like you do with a turbo. Superchargers run off pulleys, you can't just go out and buy a 15psi or 20psi pulley and up the boost. So upgradeability isn't very good at all.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 94_HATCH &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> Exactly, a daily driver that hes not gonna build internaly. That makes no sense. The turbo should be more efficient and less damaging than a supercharger. The turbo is powered by wasted energy and the supercharger is actually powered by the engine using pulleys. It doesn't matter if he is turbo or supercharged though, reliability depends on tuning.

This is what I am talking about. That's a lot of money for a 14.1 @ 100.

I'm sure you could take half that $3800 ($1900 for you math majors) and build a decnt turbo setup that would put you into the 12's no problem.

Exactly...when are people going to realize that boost is boost/nitrous. All these power adders do is one simple thing and that is add more air to the combustion process, which allows more fuel to be burned and therefore more power is made. Internally the engine doesn't know the difference between any of them and tuning is the key to reliability and preventing engine damage.

ive got less than 5000 bucks total into my car, including the car, and im running 13s on street tires, untuned, boosted LS

hmm.... personally for fun to cost ratio and everything else included, i would go turbo.

supers are cool, i just don't tend to trust JR, i would go comptech if they have one for the b16, which i don't know, i am just taking a stab in the dark.

well thanks for the post guys its been helpful, i still cant make up my mind. i origanally wanted a turbo for this set up but looked into it and saw that the turo was pretty rough with maintence. i know with a supercharger there is some maintence but not as much, maby i'll do the turbo and the tubo im lookin at is the greddy kit for the 99-00 Si, cause like i said before i got a 00 EX and plan to do the b16 swap so im pretty sure i can do this setup. if anybody has the numbers on what this setup does please send them my way. i wanna know what the quarter mile times and hp/tq numbers are. thanks
