Transmission won't seperate from engine
I'm doing a clutch swap on a '90 integra. I have all the mounts and bolts that need to be removed off, but I can't get the engine to seperate from the transmission. The Helm manual to pull the transmission away from the engine to clear the main shaft then lower the transmission. Is there something I'm missing, or any technique i can try?
Thanks
Thanks
If you search around H-T I remember a thread in the Integra section about completely rebuilding a transmission. It had more pictures than you could ever need and showed that step in particular. As for my bad memory, I remember there was a trick but I don't remember what it was. Sorry, but if you find that thread I'm sure it'll be easy.
are you positive that u removed everything neccesary ? if so try prying it, other then that, i dont see why it should be stuck, i've seen trannies that needed a little forcing to come off but never stuck. keep trying.
I have been searching around for threads on clutch jobs and what not with no success thus far. Anyone else know where I can find this thread or know how I should proceed?
tried using a pry bar already, but my leverage is not that great plus I'm trying to make sure the tranny doesn't come off the jack that's supporting it. I'm gonna keep at it, if anyone has a thought please post up as I will check back frequently.
Thanks
Thanks
you have to of missed something. . . sometimes tranny's take a little bit of prying, but they come off. . . Some people know tricks. . but for the most part you should be able to get a flat head in there . . separate it a little bit, and shimmy it off. . . If you're using a pry bar and it's still not budging, then do another run through of your work. . . make sure every last bolt is off. . .

Well I feel like an idiot. While the bolts for the side transmission mount were removed the mount couldn't be fully removed until the transmission and the engine were lowered. Once this was done and the mount slid off easilly and was no longer under tension while I was pulling back on the transmission. I was able to shimmy the transmission away from the engine rather easilly after that. Thanks anyways for the help guys.
BTW my clutch was so worn that the friction material was absolutely gone on the side facing the pressure plate and the rivets had worn a 1/4" wide and 1/8" deep groove into the pressure plate. It's amazing that thing still engaged. I'll post some pics when I finish the swap within the next few days.

Did you remove all the bolts including the starter bolt? If you miss one bolt the tranny won't seperate from the engine block. Make sure you removed all the bolts and then wiggle the tranny out until the input shaft is clear.

I agree with what several people have said. SOmetimes you need to pry it away a bit and it should come. SOmetimea good hit with a rubber hammer and chisel will do it. That is what it took for mine. MAke sure the support is not too tight against it as it might prevent it from coming free.
