Default 1990 LX all fogged up!! Help!!

Non-mechanical guy trying to keep this unit in good running order for college daughter. Home for holidays. Cold. All windows fog up much, much more than normal. She says it happened last summer when it rained. When auto stops and I get out I hear "a fan" running for 10-30 seconds after the auto has stopped? Could the problems be related? Thanks guys. Any help very much appreciated.

Make sure she has the climate control setting on fresh air and not recirculate. Also, do you ever smell any coolant in the car?

The fan is normal it's just cooling down the coolant, also do what Stew Pidasso suggested. If it's on recirculate it will cause excessive fogging even if you turn the heat up.

The fan has nothing to do with it unless the AC system is not working. Make sure the A/C system is working properly then: Make sure you have the selector on Outside Air, not recirculate, and AC is ON.

If it is pushed in, this will cause the windows to fog up.

And get down near the floorboards and see if you can smell antifreeze (or if the floors are wet with antifreeze). If so, you've got a busted heater core.

My thoughts exactly. HT is a great source of info.

Also check that there isn't a leak getting into the car from rain water. The trunks are common to leak. As this water evaporates normally it will fog on the windows trying to excape. Make sure the door drains are free also, they can back up and leak water into the car. Just some thoughts, but if it excessive and more caused by rain, than just all the time. I would look for water getting it the car some where.
