Default I installed a z10 breather tank today.

I wish i had pictures of the 5/8 ID barbed fitting i brazed onto the stock seperator...however, the camera showed up only after it was all together! I had a bracket fabbed that extends from the coolant overflow bracket; the hose diameters are 5/8 ID from the stock seperator to the tank, no PCV inline, and 3/8 ID from the valve cover to the tank.

If you are serious about NA, get one of these...

um, shouldn't that be a sealed can??

i knwo my engine builder recommended a sealed can when you're replacing the pcv system...and a vented for the valvecover

the point of venting is to release the pressure into the atmosphere. no emissions legal anywhere, but optimum for keeping oil out of the combustion mixture.

if it is a sealed setup, and is routed back to he intake manifold (not the intake tube, but the manifold), then, yeah, it will be seperating the oil from the vapors and remain emissions legal, however, the crankcase pressure will still be allowing suspended oil droplets, albeit very small, but still there, to go into the intake manifold, and into the combustion chamber.

if it is a sealed setup and DOESN'T get routed back to the intake manfold, then you will be stilfing the V of the PCV system, no venting, just pressurizing the crankcase which is no good, especially if you have it draining back into the oil galley.

In closed systems a PCV valve takes care of whether the flow is go to the manifold or not.

so, builthatch. how do you have yours hooked up? It's hard to tell from the pics. I realize one hose is from the stock black breather box. Where is the other going to?

You said you added a fitting to the stock seperator? So did you keep the stock PCV system and still add this? I'm just confused how you have it hooked up. Is the valve cover outlet still hooked to the intake tube hose or to the breather?

I have a 5/8" ID nip on the breather connected to 5/8" ID hose going to a 5/8" ID nip on the breather. There is NO PCV in this line. The second connection is a 3/8" ID hose from the valve cover to a 3/8 ID nipple on the breather. I didn't keep the PCV since the ID of such would be pretty tiny (restriction) and also, it was suggested by z10 to not run one, since there is not going to be any positive pressure facing the feed lines (such as if it was hooked to the intake manifold in a boosted application)

so while the valve cover is hooked to breather there is now no vacuum to pull fresh air into the head via the valve cover nipple? is that going to have any negative side effects? or is there still vacuum to do that?

s</TD></TR></TABLE> this is the point where i was confused, but the techs at z10 assured me that though it isn't hooked to the intake tube/ mani, it isn't a closed sys and that there will be sufficient supply of new air for ventilation...

cool. thanks for the info. I think i may try the z10 setup myself. I really like the mounting bracket they provide with it.
