B16a Intake manifold question...need help.
ok, i loaned my camera out so i can't take a picture. im hooking up all the vacuum lines and such on my b16a and i have almost everything hooked up correctly besides a few things. i already have the vacuum diagram and used it so that wont help...no need in posting it. there are two valves things on the manifold. one is hooked up with the throttle cable holder on the TB and from the vacuum diagram is says it goes to the intake tube. im boosted so i plug that off correct??? the other one is more on top of the manifold and it says UP on it and it has a bigger rubber hose going to the back of the manifold to the thing that has two bigger rubber hosed going to it (fast idle?). what should i do with this valve that says UP on it and the tube going into the manifold? should i leave it alone and just plug up the vacuum port on it. pictures would help alot. any of you guys have pictures that wouldbe great to help me explain this more.
For the throttle dashpot (located on the throttle body) u can actually remove it for a cleaner look. Take off the 11mm nut on the TB and remove its linkage, then remove the 2 phillips screws on top of the TB that attach it. Now, done with that. About the other valve, just plug the vac port OR you can remove it all together and make a nice lil block off plate to cover the holes it leaves when u do remove it. Also, make sure to plug of any vacuum sources if u choose to take it off.
ok i did what you said about the dashpot and removed it completely. as long as it doesn't hurt anything im cool with that. it looks a lot better. now for the other valve thing. if you say that won't hurt anything either then i will go ahead and make some kind of block off plate for it and then plug the hose fitting on the manifold coming from it. it will look a TON better. i really thought those valves actually did something important but i guess not.
The throttle dashpot isnt necessary at all....i believe it keeps the throttle from slamming shut (maybe for emssions reasons?). The other valve i think* is called the "air boost valve" and im not too sure why Honda put it on the manifold. What u can do for an even cleaner look is slap on a second gen (P30) intake manifold. It doesnt have provisions for the air boost valve.
