Default Question about ECU's

I'm going to be starting my all motor swap very soon and I have a question about ecu's. I've noticed a large number of people use the p28 ecu, why is that? Is it because they're just readily available or are they just flat out better than say a p72 or even a p73 from an itr? Isn't the p28 ecu from a 92-95 civic ex?

Basically I'm looking for advice on which ecu I should run with my setup:
B18C1 block -
ITR pistons
B16 head -
ITR cams
ITR intake mani
AEM shortram
DC 4-1 header
2.5" kteller exhaust

Eventually I'd like to hit 200whp but that won't be attempted for awhile. Also, I'm not sure if I'm going to go with hondata or a vafc, although I am leaning towards hondata. All help is appreciated.

P28's are cheaper and were easier to find. I don't know about the latter so much anymore. They didn't come with the knock sensor board, but some people don't care for it anyways and seem to get along just fine.

The P28 is from the '92-'95 Civic EX with D16Z6 engine. Make sure you get a manual transmission ECU.

Go Hondata.

So its merely a matter of p28's being readily available? There's no actual benefit of choosing it over the other ecu's?

if you can get your hands a P73/p30 or P61 then I would send it down to Ericks Racing and have them burn one of there programs on it. I have had 2 of there ecu's and they were far superior to any P28 that I have used or seen.......

So if I can get a good deal on a p73 ecu I should pick it up, but if not a p28 will work perfectly fine, right?

I would hold out for a B series ecu you can find them for around 200 different ecu's have different abilitys, I have seen a P61 with a program on it that only could be loaded on to a P61 because of the different processors in it or something like that. I would just try and find some type of B series ECU wether it is a P72 or the others I named in my last post. Get ahold of the you can email Erick and find out what program you should get. Just explain your setup and he might be able to tell you what ECU to look for also..............

Good Luck

i think all p73 have obd2 plug, so you would need a conversion harness for an obd1 car. you can get a chipped p28 for less then $150 and get a eprom burner for $85 and tune it with crome or uberdata. if you get hondata, you will have to pay the shop to tune the car for you evertime you change something.
