I have a 94 gsr motor with Skunk2 intake,US ITR pistons,CTR cams,Header and Mugen thinlayer head gasket. I was going to get my GSR p72 ecu reprogramed but was told a chipped p28 was better. The question is are all p28 ecu's the same? I would guess all 5spd 92-95 civic ex's came with that ecu am I right some one please help.

Re: P28 ecu questions (HOND PWR)
I am kind of in the same dillema as you, except I have a crvtec. I hear mixed things. Not sure what your compression is but my whole decision will be based on not detonating. I have heard that for high compression removed knock sensor(P28) is more likely to detonate than the P72(w/knock sensor). As for the P28 I believe all 92-95 civic ex/si's are the P28. I have both in my hand right now trying to decide which one is best. Whats the octane out in va?

Honestly, since it has knock sensor capabilities, I would stick with the P72 and get it reprogramed. It is going to cost about the same as reprograming the P28.

Re: P28 ecu questions (Halo)
I can buy 93 octane, so far my car runs fine on that. I was considering the p28 for 2 reasons. 1. The p72 cost too much to replace if I don't like the new program. 2. I have a ls/vtec that I was was going to put together so I thought i could use it for that(no need to buy a knock sensor).

Re: P28 ecu questions (FSTASNTZ)
just so you know, the knock sensor on a p72 no longer reads after about 4 or 5 thousand rpms. it isnt designed as a high-rpm motor saver, it's designed to read crappy gas and compensate at low rpms. . .

Re: P28 ecu questions (sloaccord)
I did not know that it only reads under 5 thousand. I am putting a ls/vtec together out of spareparts and I thought if I get a p28 (cheap) chipped to work better or the same as a p72(expensive) it might save me some money. Thanks for the info.
