My attempt at a DIY manifold swap...Didnt work to well
So yesterday I finally got my hands on a y8 manifold for my 97 dx. I was a little weiry about doing it myself. It seemed real complicated but everyone kept telling me it wasent that hard and to go for it.
So...... yesterday i began the swap. First i ran into trouble when I forgot to empty out my coolent.(what a mess) after it was all drained out I dove back into the manifold. Took me about a half hour to get the old one off.
After the old one was stripped of it throttle body it was time to bolt up the new y8 mani. Everything went pretty smooth. The only modification needed was to extend the coolent lines that run to the throttle body.
After the new one was on i filled it up with coolent and attempted to start it.
Didnt sound good. The engine wouldnt turn over. So i double checked everything and tried again.....No GO... Then i pulled the plugs. to my horror cylinder 1, 2, and 4 are filled with COOLENT!!!! I know how it got there. When i forgot to drain the coolent taking of the mani it must have dripped in.
So..... coolent in the cylinders how do i fix this?????
Can the head just be removed and everything cleaned?????

pull out your plugs and crank the motor then let it sit for a couple hours and do it again throw plugs back in and try to start it
Is it possible you accidentally put a coolant line onto a vacuum nipple in the manifold? That would fill the cylinders with coolant...
Put a small tube down into the spark plug holes and siphon the coolant out. Don't swallow! It might leak down into the oil pan though, then just drain the oil and change it. You'll know if it drained down there becuase the coolant will be the first thing that comes out the drain hole...

There was only three vacum nipples.. One went to the line running to the valve cover and the other one was something to do with the fuel system, and the other was the brake booster line
I attached the two coolent lines to the nipples under the trottle body

Good info, and before you change the plugs you mught as well Seafoam your motor.

if you just did it there's no real reason to again. I think he just suggested that because you're going to have to change the oil too (coolant in oil will kill you engine fast!!!)

Allright so i tried everything, sucked out all the coolant, started with no plugs, let it sit and tried again, Wont start. Think ill put it in the shop tommorow, unless someone has a another idea what it could be??
Does it turn over but not start, or does it just not even crank?
Anything unplugged anywhere? Did you clean & dry the plugs real good before reinstalling them? Make sure you do change the oil even if you got the coolant from the cylinders, as the first thing the oil pickup gets is what's on the bottom of the pan...and since oil floats, that would be coolant.
Are plug wires in correct order on the dist?
