Default what is the potental of a LS

i want 400+ wheel, i have a 94 gsr but dont want to mess with it i just want to drive it. I can get a mint 91 teg for 1,000, it's mint in every way. I just dont want to mess with both cars i was thinking of swaping motors between the two bc im not sure if the LS can make the Power i want. If i were to do the LS it would see cams springs internals... all the goodies and possibly a sc61, i just wanted to find oput what the LS is good too, thanks.

PS. and what cams would u recomend with the LS and springs, i would do cp's (thinking9:1)and eagle rods for the bottom.

You could easily make 400+whp with a built LS.

I made 427whp off of a stock LS head and a .54 trim t3/t04e. The bottom end is built, but the head is completely stock and restrictive as hell.

I totally agree about the head. You get plenty of torque with the LS motor but top end power is lacking.

Wow, those are great numbers. Aftermarket sleeves too? I like seeing straight LS motors putting that kind of power down. I'm in the process of building an LS for good numbers as well.

90-91 b18a = 130hp
92-93 b18a = 140hp
94+ = 142hp (I think)

Yep that's correct.

The head isn't as restrictive as the stock camshafts - the true problem. A gander at StyleTeg's NA LS build - and the ITR that dynoed immediately after his car - shows you what a stock LS head with a good set of cams can do.

High rpms get strangled by smallish intake valve and port design. P8R (some JDM CRV) headcasting has 33mm intake valves which help with top end flow.

400 whp will be hard on pump gas, I wouldn't feel safe past 350 even with a good intake/turbo manifold that helps reduce pumping losses. With a P8R head combo it might be doable, due to more topend flow, just like the VTEC heads allow. Running inexpensive 100LL from the airport, or 93 octane "sweetened" with 100LL, would allow it no problem.

Speed PHreak would be a good person to generally harass on the subject - built bottom end, stock head with a set of cams, eats crotch rockets. I believe dear sweet Ben sold him the one Eagle rod he needed after his spun bearing last year - some ppl were being dicks about selling one single rod, you know

Food for thought.

You said it, 386ft/lb is nice for getting the car moving, but it begins to die off bad after 7k rpm. I've got a s2 intake manifold port matched it to the head, but clearly the head is reaching it's limits

Yes, GE sleeves. It's been tough to stay away from an ls/vtec, but the car has amazing street drivability. Of course 84.5mm, a restrictive head, and a ball bearing turbo help that a bit.

That's something I didn't get at all. It took all of 3 days to get the single rod. I guess we're in the business of helping our customers while others are out there just want to make easy sales and quick cash.

The torque you stated--386 ft-lb--is for your car? If so, do you have a picture of the dyno chart? The turbo LSs that I've seen (at least on the internet, various turbos/manis/etc.) appear to have a torque drop quite a bit earlier, starting somewhere north of 5000 RPM.

My LS from 7 years ago made 255whp and 211lb/ft at 10psi. Stock LS, stock DRAG kit.

He certainly appreciated it.

If Speedy wouldn't be an asshat about his top secret dyno sheet, you'd see peak torque at 6300 rpm, with no noticeable tapering until ~7200 rpm, and that's attributable to the dyno operator lifting at 7400 when he was specifically instructed to take her to 8K. Boost was steady, crept at most 1 psi from 4.5K to 7400, so it's not a boost creep erroneous reading.

The torque begins to fall around 5000, but it's not as drastic until about 6700. Technically, I did clean up the exhaust ports a little bit, nothing drastic however. I seriously doubt it helped much. I am sorry I don't have a dyno graph. It was supposed to be emailed to me, but I have yet to recieve it in 4 months

what about:

t3/t04e .48 turbine .63 57 trim compressor
Ramhorn = length
3inch straight pipe (race car)
JRC FMIC
@13psi

What would this do on a stock, fresh engine tuned with Uberdata?

I was thinking 300whp range?
