Default 2W vs 4W on Jdm p13 - What does it mean

Hi, the search function seems to be broken. I have a 95 Si that I am swapping at H22A into. I received the engine today and after looking at the ECU I have some questions. Does anyone know what the 2W and 4W printed on the ECU means.

I have read that some people think it has to do with 4ws (which I don't have) and some people think it has something to do with the Tration control system on the JDM 4th gens. Does anyone know what it means? Is anyone using one in their 2wd 4th gen?

Any help would be appreciated.

4w=4wheel steering
the ones with traction control also had a 4th plug on the ecu.

So this ecu will not work properly on my car? I thought the 4ws system had it's own computer?

The 4ws had a traction control module if I remember correctly...you will get a 36 everytime you check the codes...but it won't trigger the light...it's considered a soft code.

Thanks for the help everyone. So it will throw a #36, but won't trigger the CEL light?

I ordered from HMO and didn't specify 2WS. Steve said he would switch with me, but the time frame I need it I will have to pay for overnight shipping. What would you guys do?

btw-you guys rock

I have a *2W* p13 on my 4ws VTEC 92 lude - and i've retained my 4 wheel steering, so i'm not too sure that it has to do with the steering aspect.

It is sure for 100%

2W - ecu from 2 wheel steering car
4W - ecu from 4 wheel steering car

On USDM market you can find only P14 ecu in 2W and 4W version.

JDM and EDM (europe) has both P14 and P13 ecu in 2W and 4W version - prelude 2.2 vtec 4WS has been marketed there.

It exists even 5 gen 2.2 vtec 4WS here in Europe

What is the difference - nobody (really nobody has been able to respond, even when I asked at honda) knows...

However it seems to work correctly even if you put 2W in 4WS car and reverse.

The only impact I can imagine is maybe when trying to read error codes - the 4WS control unit and engine ECU is connected with one wire in 4WS car, that connection does not exists on 2WS car. The wire is just used to retrieve error codes from 4WS unit by making a shortcut in service connector.

The TCS car ecu may be simply distingushed from non-TCS one by looking the number of plugs on the ecu - TCS one has 4 instead of 3 on non-TCS one.

Hope this helped.
