Default Burning solder is my gun too hot.

I began working on my first ECU yesterday. I was testing my soldering skills on a bad ECU but i was burning up the solder. I am using a 30W gun and .22 diameter wire. I dont even see where the solder goes.

what diameter solder are you using? Maybe mine is too thin.

I use a 30W gun for wires and a 15W iron for circuit boards. 30W is too hot for a ecu.

95 hatch what soldering gun do you have?

I disagree, 30W is ideal for an ecu...the key is to engage the solder real quick, really hot!

radio shack special....lol. its 100 watts with a trigger, so you just pull the trigger until you get the desired temp then solder.
