Default Sprung clutch hub or solid?

Any of you R guys ever used a solid hub in your R before? If so, is it annoying to drive on the street or in grid-lock traffic? I'll be getting a new clutch soon & just wanted some info. Thanks!

Do you live in the city or have any stop and go traffic to deal with?

If so then get the sprung hub. Its easier on the drivetrain and you.

i have driven on solid hub discs, and they are not that bad. but, if you goof, like say misshift, you not only wreck your motor but can quite possibly damage the trans as well. if you get a good quality sprung disc, you will not have any problems.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. That'll help me descide better. The only thing is my R isn't a daily driver & I really liked the solid engagement of a friends clutch in his 99 Si. Just a few bolt-ons & it would bark the tires going into 3rd gear.

I don't see that being something to work up to... even with my bad driving I spin 4th gear... I don't get it?

Why would anyone want to spin tires except for showing off at Expos?

And the unneeded stress into the tranny is just not smart. Unless you have plenty of money for rebuilds and replacements...

solid hub can lead to more wear on everything.. i had full street disk with solid hub, it grabbed no matter how i shifted.. this is not 4-6puck, its full street disk.. and it was completely driveable, yet unnecessary..

my current setup is oem clutch/oem release beraing/8.5 lbs flywheel and 1800lbs pressure plate (stock is 1500lbs) at ~ 260whp... 20k some miles.. -

unsprung hubs dont cause harsh engagement, they just damp torsional vibrations.

It was just the point for making on the vast difference of the OEM clutch compaired to the aftermaket one. I guess it was so much a noticeable difference cause my clutch is starting to slip when I make a harsh demand on it.

I have an ACT 6 puck unsprung with Heavy Duty pressure plate and it's not bad at all even in traffic. It's not that I'm used to it either cause when I first put it in I remember saying to myself "that's it??"

I was expecting alot worse.

I've got the 1MD. I'm not a fan. Sucky engagement (howling sound and shuddering), and it's slipped a couple of times at HPDE's (hard shifts into 4th/5th, sometimes it just didn't grab.)

Don't know how much is the clutch, compound, or unsprung hub.

Unsprung can be more reliable, if you're worried about snapping springs on the clutch.

if it's a daily driven car, there would absolutely be no point in getting a solid hub clutch.

Well, my stock clutch plate recently took a dump on me, broke off a piece of the metal plate around one of the springs, and it also had fractured at another spring as well. Kinda sucks as there was still some meat on the clutch but that's life i guess. Had this been a solid disk this failure would not have occurred. Next clutch for me will be an ATS metal clutch/flywheel combo and this one has a solid hub. Time will tell how it works out.
