JDM ITR Or CTR Pistons
Hey, im posting in the itr forum becuase you guys give better and quicker replys than just the integra forum sometimes.
I want to build up my bottom end now and get it ready for my head. I want to know if i should go with ctr pistons or the spoon jdm itr pistons? I plan on goin with toda spec b's. I know they like compression, so which will suit me better for a daily driven car, will the itr ones be good enough or should i just go with ctr. I dont wanna go to high and worry about valve clearance and detonation. I hear the the toda's like overlap and it will lower my static compression or something like that(i dont know what im talking about at this point
) Also what are some good rods to use that can handle around 180-190hp and revving to like 9000? And does anyone know any good machine shops in nj? Thanks for the help

I would get ctr pistons
if you are worried about detonation
just retard the timing
Stock rods are fine but if you want to be safer
you could always get your stock rods shotpeened or
just get eagle rods

Toda Bs dont like overlap, they make a lot of overlap.
You are correct that overlap lowers your dynamic compression.
I would highly recommend CTR pistons over the ITR. The extra compression
will make a big difference with these cams. Valve clearance isnt an issue,
detonation will be a small issue, but shouldnt be anything incredibly bad.
It can be tuned out relatively easily.
Regarding rods, i would recommend ITR rods for your setup.
GSR rods would probably handle it, but the ITR rods are lighter
and inexpensive. I would recommend against aftermarket rods because
they will require you to modify the piston in order to use them.

Stock rods will be fine for your application. The ctr pistons or itr pistons would both work fine and valve clearance issues wouldn't be a problem. Ctr pistons would give you somewhere around 12:1 compression. Stock itr would be right around 11:1. and i dont know about the jdm itr. Detonation can be avoided with high compression by tuning fuel/timing properly.
sgT- thanks for pointing out the dynamic compression thing. Thats what i wasnt sure about. I am most likely gonna get the ctr pistons, and i will get itr rods it they can handle it. peace
JDM Pistons (18C) CR 11.1:1
CTR Pistons (16B) CR 12.2:1
For long run ITR pistons are more reliable but if you go 12 or up CR Forged pistons are always better. Your stock rods are good enough for street usuage but if you take the car to alot of circuit events I will suggest you to go forged rods as well.

I would go CTR if yo MUST go with a cast piston.
I'd suggest saving a little more money and going with Wiseco 81.5mm pistons and Eagle rods. This way, your setup is a lot stronger for any future modifications you decide to do.
Also, the extra .5mm on the bore slightly deshrouds the valves and also gives you a tiny bump in displacement.

What are the price ranges for eagle rods and wiseco pistons? Also what is the price of new ITR rods i dont see them around for sale used alot. I might just go with the JDM ITR pistons, im not to sure how wild i want my motor to be.
hm...i plan on going the same route later down the road (when funds allow me to). Pretty soon my head is going to have ctr pistons/itr valve springs/skunk2 cam gears. Would getting CTR pistons be a safe option for me? Anything i need to worry about (clearance)? And about how much would it cost for balanced/blueprinted pistons and the labor installation?
I would go CTR piston I think it raises the compression between 11.6-12.1 some ware in that range and Toda B's like high compression. As for detination you can run 91 octane on 12.5 compression with the proper tunning. As for rods I would say eagal or crower or if on a budget get the stock one's shot pinged. Good luck with your build up.
to comment on the stock rods....I would have them cryo treated, which takes them down to -300 degrees and strengthens them more than shot peening them. IMHO.
LSR
oh and DEFINATELY CTR pistons....
