It depends on what type of system you are using really... If you have to put the oil on it yourself i suggest rapid tap which works excellent for pretty much everything that doesnt require a flooding type coolant system.

If you band saw has a water pump i suggest some Valcool... i personally use VNT 935 coolant... but its also $130.00 for a 5 gallon pale of it while most collants are about $25 for 5 gallons, for a lower budget coolant concentrate try VNT-800 from val-cool. the problem with a lot of coolants out there is most will not work in tap water. it needs to be purified but VNT-800 works in it and is about $12.00/gallon, and 1 gallon of it makes about 15 gallons of coolant.

we used to use the mobil stuff at my old work i dont rember the name of it, worked good though, we use this clear green stuff now at my work, its super think and has high lubricity but i dont know how good it is on metal, we cut glass with it on a diamond blade, and the stuff is like 3000 for a 55 gallon drum

i would not use wd40 on my bandsaw. i use either a high speed cutting oil, or air tool lubricant. i like the air tool stuff because it is clear and you can still see your markings. good luck!

Anyone ever hear of using Auto trans fluid? My brother read it somewhere and we used it as cutting fluid when we honed his GSR.

In our band saw we use Lenox brand "Band-Ade" and for cutting, tapping, and threading we use Castrol Moly-Dee.
