black particles in coolant resevoir...???
im about to change my oil and my coolant to a water + water wetter mix
there is black particles in my coolant...
not much, but its all on the sides of the coolant...
there is a faint layer of what looks like to be oil in the resevoir, but could be just contaminated (cuz its so minimal)
any thoughts to what it could be?
someone thought it could be pieces of the HG

try to wic it with some tissue and see if its water/oil.. the oil will separate from the water and show on the tissue or papertowel, you'll see it if its oil..
Clean and flush the system if unsure still and put fresh stuff in. Dont use tap water because it has contaminents in it, use a premix or bottled water... Then check it again after a days use and see if its back again..

i found the same thing i my over flow bottle as well.. little oil ***** on top of the coolant and on the sides of tha bottle... not sure how it got there coolant was only 2 months old???? i just emptyed it out and cleaned it then filled with new coolant.... only thing i can see causeing it is maybe a slight head gasket issue of not sealing...

It could be carbon from the combustion chamber if the HG is bunk. That will be like a sticky black sludge in the coolant.

thats a sign of a head leak, i had the same problem, and found that i had a leak in 1 and 2 cylinders.

strange enough
got tested today
compression was good
around 190 across
leakdown was close to 0 if not 0

We have seen people with good compresison numbers yet still have a blown HG . I'd say take the head off if it really bothers you

i'd say good compression numbers don't help since leakdown test is more important, which i did
i just found out my fan wasn't working!
swapped it out and gonna go for a drive....

That's exactly what happened to me when my head gasket was leaking combustion gases into my water jacket. It only did it under full boost at high RPM's and compression and leakdown tests were fine. I ended up having to get the head resurfaced.

same here..
im with the back particles, being small bits of the "coating" on the headgaskets.

I hadn't thought of that. Were you using a Cometic with the black coating? That's what I was using.

well what u want to keep an eye out for is if your esivor starts to over flow or rise considerable... if it does.... that means pressure from your cyliders are building up into the water jackets..... and increasing the pressure in the cooling system.... just carfulll thathis what hapend right b4 i blew the gasket and WARPPED the head BAD!!!!

I couldn't really see mine bubbling unless it was on the dyno, then I could see the exhaust gases bubbling out of the overflow tank at high RPM/boost.
