Welders
Ok when stick welding and your rod sticks that means you are to close and your puddle is swallowing the rod, so you cant weld! Instead of scratching to start try just tapping and lifting up about a 1/8 inch. Stick welding i think is stronger and good luck with a cheap mig you get what you pay for!

LMAO dude stop being a smart **** and actually go read some sites or books on welding. I just cant believe you went out and bought a welder if you didnt even reseach into it first
And NO MIG and ARC/stick welding is the same in "strength", just that ARC is more flexible. What I mean by this is imagine a bridge on a hot day, as you would imagine it would flex and sway due to the weight on top the heat. The ARC welds would allow the joints to flex more before it breaks compared to MIG.

I wouldnt consider STICK welders for anything than farm machinery. We welded a trailer and then some for a tractor with stick, but anything that you need to have good control on thin pipe to get it to look anything less than **** I'd take a mig.
Migging with flux core wire is as close to stick welding as I want to get in automotive stuff.
Yeah, you should of (if you already bought the welder) learn and read a bit more into things, not make a hasty decision. But if you really would of wanted to use stick, you could of gotten those inverter machines that have scratch tig in them.

seriously, not trying to jump on the bandwagon with everyone else... but just because you can buy a welder does not make you a weldor. i have been doing for a long time and have seen several cars come into my shop that i would not drive around the block let alone down the race track. LEAVE THE WELDING TO SOMEONE WHO IS A PROFRESSIONAL! or wait until you have improved your skills. and by all means pick up a book and read about what it is you are buying before just buying a welder and then asking if it will work with your application.
u BUY a welder so u can LEARN to weld
i returned my stick welder... maybe ill get the lincoln electrics AC-225 stick welder or go for a cheap MIG on ebay..

You need to take their, and my advice I gave you when you IM'd me. Go to your local barnes and noble or borders books and read some welding books. At least browse them so you can get terminology and basic technique. You could buy them or just be cheap and buy some coffee there and sit down and read it for free like me. Either way if I were you I wouldnt pay anymore money until I knew what I needed.

Dude its the same with a car, you dont buy it then learn to drive it just like that. Before actually doing so you have to learn the basic concept of it like how the road code works. Sure you maybe learn how to actually drive the car but the concept of actually being on the road before that you have to learn.
