today i was driving and all of a sudden my lights turned off , my radio turned off , and my motor shut off with a CEL.....troubleshooting narrowed it down to my under hood fuse box!!!!!!!!! i could wiggle the ground wire that goes into the fuse box and the car lights would go on and off. has anyone ever experienced this?

 

did u open the box? there should be 2 screws holding the wires to it, check if they r tight

 

Loose ground then? Tighten it down and you should be good to go.

Yeah, maybe it has something to do with a loose wire in the dizzy too becase this kind of thing happened to my friend the other day, but no CEL just turned off. I don't know, but it is worth a shot.

 

naw i tried tightening the ground wire down , it was tight
its the contact inside the fuse box . the wire looks really good . if i take the wire off and pry the little metal thing up on the box it works...so i know its the box . how wierd is that!

 

kind of crazy that it just decided to come loose.

ya man everything just started ******* up randomly in my car. my speedo started acting wierd then shut off.....my hazards stoped working along with my turn signals....then it it started shuting off . wierd huh?

 

never heard of that problem, but atleast you figured it out. Maybe you need some rotas on your hatch, i heard that by putting rotas on a car you wont have any problems

 

id rather have my car not run!!!!

umm there arent any ground wires in you fuse box... they're all (+). it's no suprise that you electrical stuff went nuts. your symptoms actually sound like you had a bad altenator. good thing it was an easy fix tho

 

thats not a ground? when would i be able to move that wire over to my other positive side?

 

it did seem like a bad alt!!! my voltage while driving would go up to 12.8 , then down to 11.9 it never got to 14 at all.....so wierd.

yup sounds like the alt to me too

 

its not , the ELD is in that fuse box.....

 

I had that happen in a 1974 Firebird I used to own. It's pretty scary as your riding down the road, and all of a sudden your car shuts off.

 

underhood fuse box fixed it today
