how to intall block gaurd myself?
i searched and didnt find my answer. i have been told to freeze it then put it in. also if i have to tap it on will it ovalize the sleeves? i need to know how to properly put it in. i am building my bottom end and i have honed the cylinder walls already.
i havent installed one but i do know you need to hone afterwards. i wouldnt use anymore force than tapping it with your hand, file it until it fits snug dont force it.
i wouldnt recommend freezing it though because when it expands in the block it will probably cause damage. i believe they're supossed to be flush with the deck also.

Do not do this at home. It can be done but you can crack the gaurd and a sleeve. Also when you install the gaurd it pushes the sleeve in at the top, which is normal but must be honed by a machine shop to make the sleeve the same bore from top to bottom.
Repeat-Do not do this at home!!You can't believe how much the things distort the bores. If someone really wants one I usually hone to the next oversize.

Block guards are just like any other block modification.. You should take it to a machine shop to have it installed.. They modify the block guard to fit into your motor not make your motor work with the block guard..
LOTS of misinformation in this thread. The blockguard does not need to be machined to fit. It is simply file fit. If you don't slam a hammer on it, it's not going to distort the sleeves.

Your right, there is alot of misinformation in this thread.. Anything that touches the cylinder walls will distort it.. I have seen a few block guards fail but none that were professionally installed failed..
