Default Grinding sound when starting

When I start my car sometimes it makes a grinding noise. It does not do it when its cold and the starter was new had it replaced under warranty again just to make sure. Its a JDM H22 but the starte is USDM. Iam pretty sure that does not matter though. Anybody have this problem before?

If it is belt problem, the sound should be screeching, not grinding. I had similar grinding sound like that b4 when I started the car (just sometimes only). I found out the the 1 of the wire connector to the starter loose, it was connected but not all the way in, loose. I just pluged it tight and the problem solved. I don't know exactly what is wrong with your case. I 'm just sharing mine, hope it will help somehow.

i would think it could be the flywheel. is it a stock flywheel or are there a few miles on it. Teeth could have got rounded over

I get a metallic sound on start up as well. It usually lasts until the car warms up, 2-3 minutes. Also it makes the same noise when I engage a higher gear with a low rpm. Say like going into 4th at like 2500rpm.

Maybe this is my flywheel too?

Thats what I thought and hoped it was when I got a new clutch, so I replaced the flywheel. Seemed to be fixed until 9th or 10th start. But sometimes it starts good that many times in a row,if I am lucky.
