Oh my dear lord, how are you getting 18mpg? I'm using some $5 plugs from Wal-Mart for time being, and regardless of these plugs or the plugs I used before them I get 34-38mpg on average. :\

I think you have bigger issues than just your plugs. Or maybe not, who knows.

Oh right, and I have a 98 d16y8 w/ MT and 54K original miles.

Stop driving around everywhere with the accelerator pressed all the way down...that should improve your mileage.

He has an A U T O M A T I C ! . Same with me and my milage is not any better in town. I get upper 20's on the highway but in town S U C K S. There have been several threads on this but nobody has replied with suggestions.
Like I said before I have replaced my Dist cap, rotor, plugs (which seem to burn clean), fuel filter, flushed trans fluid, idle is smooth, excelleration is good, transmission shifts smoothly, cleaned throttle bode, Seafoamed manifold. Next on my list is a new O2 sensor and plug wires but I suspect it's the suck-o-matic transmission.
Mine (97 EX auto / coupe) passes emissions with flying colors . Might help if other automatic owners post their milage ? I would think low to mid 20's mpg in town is possible without jack-rabbit starts from stoplights etc ?
Thanks

ngks with ngk wires and also get a k&n filter or even an aem cold air intake will help a lot just make sure its a cold air intake and not a short ram because the short ram will just be gay and loud and the cold air will get the job done right..

as far as numbers for the plugs just go to your local auto parts store and tell them your year and make and model

I'm right behind you with almost 17mpg.
I also have a '97 with automatic (86K miles). Got new NGK plugs and all, but no help. Maybe it's the O2 sensor, but wouldn't the check engine light go on?
Weird thing is, I have another '97 with the same engine and transmission and has a lot more miles on it, but it gets 26-28mpg. Go figure.
(The one that gets good mpg does have a recently rebuilt transmission, but the one with the crappy mileage shifts a lot smoother with no delays).

D16RICE,
Thanks for the good info about the transmission....may confirm my fears about the suck-o-matic transmission !
Anyone know automatics very well ? Any chance a new linear solenoid (easy DIY aprx $150 ) would buy some milage ?

How an aftermarket intake is going to help your gas milage, I would like 2 know. But how a short ram is GAY? ...

Please explain. I payed nearly $200 less 4 a short ram (AEM) compared to a AEM CAI. And I get quicker throttle response, and still have extra money to save to do something that REALLY improves performance (like a future B-series swap 4 my EJ).

+ I didn't know that car parts had sexual preferences.

to loud and doesnt look clean and also more air flow gets you better gas mileage also if you have a short ram intake you cant drive in the rain because theres good possiblities water gets up in your **** and with a cai you can put a water bypass valve on it
