Default Quick question connecting rods and pistons swaps. yes no??

Hey I am usually in the CRX forum and I don't know to much of swapping internals.

I know this and that but I am unsure if this is possible..
I have a b18a1 can I swap GSR (b18c1) connecting rods and pistons in? Will it add performance? How is piston valve clearance? Thanks. The b18a1 has 140,000 on it and the b18c1 has 30,000 on it. Thats why I want them, doing a cheap rebuilld.

Thanks,
Shane

no you cant use gsr/itr works
because of the different stroke

okay thanks. Will b16 work? (probably a stupid question but I don't fully understand stroke)

I forgot to ask. The pistons and rods won't work? Or is it just one of them? Like the connecting rod or just the piston? Can I use b16 connecting rods with b18c1 piston? or peer b16 rod and pistons?

It's not just stroke. Its about rod legnth, and piston heighth as well. All the pistons have the same heighth. So basically the rods have to match the crank. So no, b16 rods won't work either. The only way you would be able to do that is if you had a set of pistons with a raised wrist pin location. But yeah gsr, b16 and ls pistons will all work with an ls crank and ls rods.

hey thanks a bunch man. I understand better now.

Will different pistons raise the compression? From GSR or b16a2?

Yeah b16 pistons will yield the highest compression ratio over LS, gsr or b16. Of course you could get even more with itr or ctr.

Hey thanks for the help.

If I am using b16 pistons is the valve piston clearance safe? Is there any application where it won't be safe?

Your piston to valve clearance will be fine. Actually even better because the b16 has bigger and deeper valve reliefs over an ls anyways. But you'll be fine either way providing your head isn't milled to crap and your timing isn't f$cked.

OKay how about this. (lol thinking of more questions everytime you answer)..
Can I change out the crankshaft for a b16 crankshaft and use the rods and pistons? See I have a extra b16 block and I am rebuilding the b18a1 over winter nothing extravagent but I have no use for the blocks internals since I am putting aftermarket rods and pistons in. (I actually have 2 extra blocks thats where I am getting the crankshaft from).

Okay I hope I didn't lose you on that last question..

Can I use a b16 crank in a b18a1? Or would it require some fabrication? I have heard of people using ls crankshaft in b20's or even b17's in a b20. Seeing if I can with get a coulpe extra ponies off of left over parts.

Thanks.

The deck of a b16 is shorter than a b18. So you can't do it unles you have custom rods. Maybe CTR rods. Because the ctr stroke is identical to a b16(I THINK) but the block is the same as a b18. But I'm not sure if ctr rods can be used on a standard b16 crank. A question better answered by a jdm freak. I don't get into those motors at all.

lol forgot I was in the integra forum ( , forgive me for I have sinned) naw thanks a bunch. By deck that is the top of the block correct?

The difference between the b16 and b18 block isn't in fact the block is it? Doesn't it have to do with the stroke?

Well I believe you answered all my questions.

Thanks alot.
