Do you want a lsd to work 50% of the time or not work at all
There is no substitute for quality
you get what you pay for, in other words NO

No, no, and no.

If you're going to go through the trouble of opening the transmission case and pulling the diff, do it right the first time and install a real LSD.

absolutely not Get a Quaife We have seen quite a few transmissions with this product installed and they had poor results as they ended up in our shop as core transmissions. Also could be from improper installation but, seen way too many to say that.

One of the Champion ITA crx's in the NW here is running a phantom and I had the pleasure of driving it. The thing worked great.. Infact it worked SO well that I thought about using one for my new ITA CRX.

I already have my heart set on something else but they have been using this phantom for 3 years and still works great. We pulled the tranny apart at the track a while back and there was NO WEAR. The tranny was in tip-top shape. I give a for phantom or at least Phantom "style" LSD.

So this is a message from someone who actually has personal experience with a Phantom "Style" LSD.

wonder why most peeps say they suck then? wonder if most say they suck because they are just agreeing with others? I personally havent used one, so I cant say if they are good or not.

Several reasons,
1: they just saw something negative about in the interweb and "went with it".
2: They've looked at the design and how simplistic it is and said "It's cheap and it's simple, it can't be any good.".
3: They've tried it themselves and had a bad experience but it they also installed it themselves and it was the first time they've ever opened a tranny case.
4: Installation may require "creativity".

On the one that I drove, that worked fantastically, had a modification to it. They had wedged a penny between each of the springs to increase it's capability. This actually worked WONDERS and has worked for MANY races.

Remember though, I'm talking STRICTLY RACING.. I'm not talking streetability AT ALL.

People will tend to exagerate but yes, this is the common opinion.
Factory LSD's and Quaife's are great units for cars that are daily driven and/or raced.

I'm still waiting for the final verdict on the OBX diff. As it stands, I'm considering one because the crx si trannies are a dime a dozen and a 300-400$ obx diff is ironically more expensive than the tranny so I might as well try to cut corners if it will get the job done.

Phantom for the track:
Phantom for the street:
Phantom for ease of installation:

Torsen diffs for street/track:
