Default 92 crunchy tranny...

hello im new to hondatech...., im srry if this post is in the wrong spot..but..

i have a 1992 accord EX with about 130,000 miles manual trans.

when you shift too quickly into any of the gears except for 4th it crunches, especially after revving it up high.... if i shift slowy enough it will go in without crunching.. 3rd is very bad....

im not sure if this is fluid realated or if the tranny is dead.. or what?

im hoping that it is just the trans fluid that needs replacing...?

thanx in advance...

your accord is not a performance car.....

the syncros were not made for high rev quick shifting.

deal with it and shift slower, or if you must shift quickly, do it at lower revs.

i know its not a performace car

i mean it will crunch when i rev it to 3500 and shift into third, not a high rev....

it will crunch into second reving it to 4000 if i shift even at a normal speed.....

it also crunches into fifth when just shifting slowly....

i think that the tranny might have the wrong fluid in it... i dont know, i just got it used last summer .......
its been crunching since i got it....

i know its a problem because ive driven my dads 02 accord ex with a manual and i can shift quicker than the 92 no problem.. so something is wrong...

help....

try changing out your fluid with fresh honda MTF. see if that fixes things.

go from there

I had that same problem on my civic hatch. The problem was bad syncros on those gears. I'd say drive it until you have to hold it in gear, and then pick up a replacement tranny off ebay or a local junk yard. My hatchie got so bad I had to hold the shifter in 3rd.

dont worry about trim levels too much... if it came on an f22a/b it should work i think.
