Default B18C1 Turbo possibilities....

I am new to the turbo world and would like to get some suggestions. I have a 92 VX with a 99 B18C1 motor and would like to know what kind of options there are for turbos. I'm not willing to tear the motor down and build it up for high boost or anything like that. I was told that since the compression is higher on the DOHC VTEC motors that turboing it would be a bad idea unless I went with lower compression pistons.
Are there any kits on the market that would be reliable for a daily driver on a bone stock B18C1? I'm looking for more useable power - i.e. mustang killer power. I'm willing to piece together a kit or buy a complete out-of-the-box setup. I've explored the possibilities of a JRSC but not a turbo setup. I'd like to get some ideas on turboing before making a decision on buying the JRSC.

I would like to know some more about the turbo setups on a GS-R motor before I buy one. Thanks for the link though and I'll keep it in mind.

The main pitfall of turboing your motor is YOU. If you decide that you want to run 15psi you can up the boost very easily. And soon you will need a rebuild. Now if you realize the limitations of your fuel setup and stay within its means you will be fine for a fairly long period of time.

I've seen many, many stock B motors make good power for years when turbod. It is all up to the driver and how he tunes. But just don't get the JRSC. Those are the biggest pieces of crap. A good turbo setup will run all over one.

That's what I'm trying to find out, exactly what the limits are for a stock B18C1 motor. The thing that worries me most is the already high compression and how much it will raise with a turbo. How much boost will it handle, what other upgrades to the fuel/ignition system will need to be done, etc.

A turbo set up will work fine with your stock compression ratio B18C1. I ran 15 lbs with a B18C (which has .5 to 1 more c/r than B18C1). BUT this was in a race car with a DFI and a perfect tune. If you stay conservative (6 - 9lbs boost) and have the proper fuel and spark management along with a good cooling, the motor will be fine. That much boost can still throw you in the back seat

stock fuel system is limited at 8psi.. stock ignition on a GSR, i think most people retard it to 14 degrees. A stock GSR motor can easily handle 10psi with the right fuel management and with a lower compression headgasket(alot of people dont like these, but it seems everyone who has used one likes it) 15psi is possible but until u upgrade injectors and computer you shouldnt go over 8psi.. basically thats it and do go boosting for more then 15sec at a time, no 5th gear pulls, and make sure u have an EGT gauge to keep an eye on your exhaust heat and u will be fine..

Oh I love these questions!!! The B18C1 accepts turbochargers like a virgin in a strip club. That motor can easily hold 350hp with completely stock internals.

My advice to you: Make a horsepower goal, team it with a price you want to spend...and then work from there. Contrary to popular belief, a Honda motor does NOT always need to be fully built in order to make awesome, reliable horsepower. If I were to ever turbocharge a Honda again, I would not build the motor. The best way to go with a daily driven Honda, is an upgrade in fuel delivery, upgrade in ignition, and aftermarket engine management. You can safely boost past 1.0 bar, you just need good tuning with ample fuel and ignition. 440cc or higher injectors, a high volume fuel pump, a fuel rail, and a fuel pressure riser, along with MSD ignition units, and DFI (or any other good engine management unit), and a good dyno technician, and you have a dope ***, low 12 second street car (in your case, with the Civic VX, you can EASILY hit 11's)...
