What Oil To Raise Pressure. But Still Start n Idle in Winter? SAE40? 20W40?
My rod bearings are apparently fucked from nitrous on stock timing. Oil light came on and will stay on if the car is running for more than 15min.
So I need to use some thick oil to bump up the pressure. Now I dont know what the numbers mean really (cold thickness/hot thickness??)
So can anyone suggest an oil what would work great to bump pressure, still start during a Canadian winter
Now my idle as of now, dead cold will start at about 300rpm, and after about 2 min be up at 850, so will a thick oil lower my idle and my car wont even start?
Hope someone can help, thanks

i wouldn't go thicker than 15w-40 because of oil galley sizing on honda engines. too thick of oil can cause an oil starvation from not being able to flow enough volume through some of the galleys.
Well Im just looking for some opinions, I need as thick as I can go and still be able to start nice and not kill my idle
Motor only has to last 2-3 months until I drop in my built
Then its go time
Thanks

You got plenty of it in this thread.
Just do SOMETHING and quit making so many threads about it. Either shim the pump, replace the bearings, or just go with a thicker oil (which people have said won't work).
There aren't but so many to choose from - pick one. Just remember, 5w-30 means the oil, when cold, will flow like a 5w oil but when hot, will not thin less than a 30w oil.
20w-50 sounds like a winner to me (though I'm in the camp that knows picking a thicker oil isn't going to help you).

been saying this since the first thread he made.

if you look into the oil property called "viscosity index" you would find that a synthetic oil, even a 20-50, doesn't start out as thick as a convential oil. a lot of people confuse this characteristic with synthetic oil just being thinner than convential. synthetic will let you pump the oil at start up. take a look into mobil one's web site.
but i agree with EE_Chris thicker oil won't help.

15W40
VS
20W50
As long as the car will start in the winter, Im happy with the thicker. But is 50 to thick for the Honda oil galley's?

You should make another thread then. Put a poll in it and list as many different weight oils as you can. You should even throw the option of "Gear Oil" in that list too as its some thick **** - 75W90.

I'm still going to go with the "Make a poll option".
You should also add the "My **** is going to blow up" option instead of "Gear Oil" as I recommended earlier.
