Default 88 crx/d16z6 timing questions..

i have some questions about timing my z6.. hope i someone can help

1. right tension on the timing belt.
i did just like the manual says.. rotate 3 teeth at camshaft then tighten the tensioner bolt.. turned on engine.. and i started to hear that "howllin" noice that people talk about.. so i went ahead and did less than 3 teeth( half a tooth less).. noise was less after that .. but i can still hear some "howlling".. should i try to turn less again?? till noise goes away.. or can it be the alternator belt?? clueless since ive never done a timing belt before and i never heard the egine before i did the belt since i did it before installing in the car.

2. idle jumps up and down.. about 100 rpms.. could it be the belt/s? im only gettin #1 code (02 sensor) i think its bad. since it came with some used headers i got and the previous owner wasnt sure if the sensor was ok..

3. when u set the timing. do you disconnect the iac (sensor behind the manifold???

help would be apreciated

Im haveing a very similar problem with my timing belt. It doesnt stay tight all the way around. I get belt slap. I talked a honda mechanic and he said I was doing it right. Make sure you keep tension on the crank while your tightening the belt back up or youll lose the tightness.

O.K. lets see if i can help you! When you put the belt on you made sure all the marks lined up? And afther you put the belt on you rotated the engine over 2 times and made sure the marls lined up again. The noise could be a couple of things. The belt is to tight but it wont hurt anything, and maybe on of the plastic covers is hitting on the cam pulleys. Let me know what you find.

actually if it is too tight it will pull the cam down into the journals on the head...remember it gets tighter as the engine warms up

i did that.. the belt didnt jump any theeth or anything like that.. the noise its some sort of "howlling" noise.. it was louder but i lossen the belt and it went away.. but if i get really close i can still hear it.. now i dont know if i should lossen it more. because if i do it, i will be rotating the camsproket 2 teeth insead of 3 like the manual says.. ( remember i already lossen it a bit, so i only rotated 2 1/2 teeth when i applyed tension on the belt ).
