Signs of Bad Valve Guides?
In my built GSR im still having oil consumption problems. Now i run a 1st gen b16head, with zero work done to it.
I seem to get blow by from somewhere, and i have no idea where. I have done at least 10 compression tests on the motor. Its always around 235psi across the board. Im at 11.5:1 compression with PR3 pistons. It doesnt smoke around town, it smokes only when :
1) I coast down to a stop , then if i blip the throttle it will puff smoke out. sounds like valve seals right?
2) REALLY high in the RPMs like around 7000-9000 i can see (only at night) some smoke coming from the exhaust.
I have had several of my friends ride behind me as i floor it an so forth an all of them say it smokes in the high rpms but it barely noticeable. It doesn not smoke in the moring when i first crank it up. Valve selas, guides are old originals.
So my questons are, since i show good bottom end compression ,then i am safe to assume my rings have seated. Im going through 1 qt every 500 miles. Car was tuned with a wideband and broken in properly.
What do you guys think? PCV, what are signs of bad guides, etc? just looking for ideas.

i would try a leak down test first to pinpoint the problem. compression test doesnt tell you much.
if the block was bored or honed, id check piston to wall clearance. ive seen many cases where incapable machine shops leave too much clearance and the engine will smoke. our engines run real tight clearances and most domestic machine shops do not know this. this is assuming you were running the same head before the piston work and no smoke.

all machine work was done by a reputable local machine shop that deals with hondas on adaily basis. Block was bored an hones to 81.5mm. all my clearances were well within spec. bore an piston to wall clearance was all kosher. Your right , i did have the head on a different motor before. Myquestion, do my compression numbers seem low at all? i wold think if the piston to wall clearance wasnt right for some reason my numbers would be low? thanks for the info
BTW i run an ANR an i love it

yeah im hoping its not, its weird i show good compression numbers , that leads me to maybe something in the head, but i guess i wont know untill i get a leakdown
u outta just get that head from jensen. u can havethe head thats on my b16 right now. i can guarrantee its ability to hold oil in becasue i drove it 300+ miles before i even check it
anyways
