Default engine question

whats up everybody , i just bought a 1990 crx si 4 days ago and ive been reading about honda engines since trying to learn . before this car all ive worked on was old muscle cars , anyway it has a b16a3 block with a b18b1 head from what i understand this would be called a frankinstein engine but after more research usaully people take a ls block with a vtec head not the other way around.i asked the guy i bought it from about it he said he did that bc it gave it more torque . im interested in straight like performance but i dont really want to loose low end power would quarter mile times go up or down if i put the b16a3 vtec head back on . and is this a common setup so far i havent found anyone with this setup . oh ya he said another reason why he chose this setup was he said it was better for auto x . thanks for your time and help

I have seen this setup before! Its basically almost like having a ZC motor! The LS B18A/B is better than that motor!

However though you have options; you can use B-series pistons in it and you can use aftermarket cams (Crower, Crane, etc) in it unlike the ZC which you do not have many options with!

IMO buy an LS Block($100-$150) and put the LS head on that to get more torque! Or you can use what you got and be different!

Your best option is to pick up a b 18a/b la bottom end and take the pistons from the b16 bottom end and have them put into the ls bottom..Then you have a higer cr ls motor. Or you could pick up a vtec head and run the straight b16 setup. The reason that motor is built is because those are the spare parts leftover when 90% of people do ls/vtec conversions.
