I recently bought a '90 Civic HB, and the engine in there looks to me like a mini-me. The person I bought the car from has never driven the car, and he told me it was a Y7, because that was what the block said. I think the previous owner did a mini-me swap. The block says D16Y7, but the head looks different and it has the Y8-type of intake manifold, with the TB on the side, instead of the TB on top of the IM, like on the Y7s.

 

that picture makes my eyes hurt

look to see if there is a vtec solenoid on the back of the head. the IM won't tell you anything.

well that is a vtec head cuz the spark plugs come out the front not the back on non vtec

 

That's what I was a thinking, one of my former cars was a '98 EX, and the head looks identical except for the color.

no....y7's had the sprakplugs in the front aswell just look for the vtec solenoid.....kinda looks like a z6 manifold also.

edit also looks like its still non obd, cause i see what looks like a si dist. and a resistor box.
