Default Stock LSD check

I know this has been covered here before, but the search is down.

I was just laying under my car trying to figure out what the scary clunking and vibration is when I step on the brakes and as I was spinning the driver's side wheel towards the rear (as if the car was rolling forwards) I noticed the passenger's side wheel not turning. With the LSD shouldn't the other wheel be spinning in the oppiste direction? I remember there is something weird about the type of diff that is in these cars.

So far on the clunking and vibration (its pretty bad from 30mph up) I have changed the lower ball joint. It appeared after about 1000 miles on the new wheel bearing on the driver's side. Nothing feels loose, there is no play anywhere when I jack the up. I measured multiple points on the driver's side and compared the passenger's side and everything was pretty close. I am thinking my next step is to get an alignment and if that doesn't bring out the problem take it to the dealer (my butt is sore just thinking about it).

Thanks guys!

1) put the car in gear before trying the whole wheel spin thing

2) klunking.... motor mount?

Hahaha, its funny you should say that. I have been so frustrated with the whole vibaration thing that totally slipped my mind.

Do you think a broken motor would cause that sort of vibration under braking? Its not a problem when accelerating and I can feel a slight vibartion in the wheel going down the road at certain speeds (that could just be the tires).

Thanks!

I think might be part of it, but it definatley sounds like something it going to come apart if I have to jump on the brakes at speed.

I will have my rotors turned just in case.

Any other thoughts?

did you check to see if you left any bolts loose when you did the wheel bearing?

Here is the "operational check" for the LSD according to the Helms.

1. Set the parking brake and block the rear wheels

2. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with saftey stands in the proper locations

3.With the enging off, shift the transmission into 1st gear

4.Rotate either front wheel by hand, and check that the other wheel rotates in the opposite direction

5.If the opposit front wheel does not rotate, or if you cannot spin the front wheels @all, the limited slip diff is faulty and should be replaced.

sounds like you already figured out it wasn't the LSD.. but if it is, there is another "rotating torque check", If you need that IM me

also, when is the last time you had your wheel/tires balanced?

Are your calipers bolted on relatively well? Wheels torqued on?

Hey guys, thanks for all your comments. I ahev been throught eh front end of the car two fr three times now looking for loose anything, and still nothing. Everything it torqued to Helms values plus a tiny wiggle.

I am going to try getting my rotors turned and hopefully the solves it all. I will post up my findings.

Thanks again everyone!

Just buy new ones--they are cheap enough.

Weird, my friend is having the same exact problem. Whenever the cars going, eh anywhere from 35mph+ it starts to wobble and you can feel the car going from left to right hella fast...if you are to look at the cd deck while under acceleration it shakes left----right (looks crazy haha). Do any of these syntoms sound familair?

One more thing---

Rotate your tires front/rear. Plus Autozone rotors are like $25 a piece.
